KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- A Malaysia Airlines plane sent signals to a satellite for four hours after the aircraft went missing, an indication that it was still flying for hundreds of miles or more, a U.S. official briefed on the search said Thursday.
Six days after the plane with 239 people aboard disappeared, Malaysian authorities expanded their search westward toward India, saying the aircraft may have flown for several hours after its last contact with the ground shortly after takeoff from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing.

Single engine general aviation planes go missing all the time. Alaska is peppered in with yet to be found plane wreckage. However commercial and commuter airliners have so many navigation systems in them that it is basically impossible for them to go missing.
Even if it was possible, explain how the transponders were shut off. Both of them. The engines on the Boeing 777 emit a signal via satellite so it will alert the maintenance shop of problems for repair before the plane arrives at Bejing. That signal indicate the engines were running for 4 hours after the plane radar blip disappear. This will also corroborate with the Chinese families ability to call their love ones, hearing ringing on the cellphones, but no one answers. If the plane had crashed into the ocean, the cellpones would not ring but immediately inform the caller the cell is not available and refer to the owners voicemail to leaving a message. This is one of the weirdest air incidents to date especially in the age where everything can be tracked.
A nuclear strike would bring on martial law and ensure Obama’s presidency for many years to come.

You’re implying it was hijacked, and landed somewhere. Only a few problems with that theory:
— First, passengers don’t put up with hijackers these days. NO planes have been hijacked since 9/11.
— Where did it land? Pakistan is too far. Iran is too far.
— Why go to the trouble? Planes can readily be purchased on the open market.
Could it not fly around?

Well, for your first question, it would be relatively easy to incapacitate the passangers and crew, especially if the pilots were involved.
Well, I just checked eBay. All I saw was B777 models, but I may not be looking in the right place for the real deal. :-)
For the sake of discussion: What if the plane landed on a private/isolated air strip, was refueled there, took off again and now could be just about anywhere? This process could have happened more than once.
