This is why Russia is taking such a hard line. Like in Syria, they know once the facts come out, the world will not see Russia ans its allies as the only bad guy and will just accept whatever happened.
The real problem is that our leaders believe their own BS. That caused them to use this character to overthrow a democratically elected government, rather than just wait a few months for the next election.

Indeed - the plot does thicken. What promises might have been made to whom and with what agenda - this didn't just pop up like a cork released from the bottom of a pool - why was there next to zero word out until actions had already been taken and why are Kerry and Obama saying such stupid things as it plays out...over and over?
In Honduras in 2009, Obama backed the Marxists. In Egypt he backed the Muslim Brotherhood. In Libya he backed Al Qaeda and in Syria he backed the “rebels” aka Al Qaeda, in Ukraine he backs Nazi types.
