Rand Paul: Republicans Need to Soften on Social Issues
Breitbart ^ | 3-16-2014 | Warner Todd Huston

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is warning Republicans that if they expect to be relevant in the future and grow the party they will have to soften on social issues.

In an interview with vocativ.com, Paul said he had "sort of a Jeffersonian belief in unity, peace and commerce with all" and that the best way to build the GOP for the future is to include people with whom they don't agree on every issue.

"I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues," Paul advised. "The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who don’t want to be festooned by those issues......"

Our Constitution was made only
for a moral and religious people.
It is wholly inadequate to the
government of any other.

Why there is nothing immoral about taxes and spending unless you see them as social issues. It’s merely a matter of what is in your own best interest in your short lifetime especially right this moment. How much can I get for my vote? My stingy boss wont give me a raise so Ill make Obama my boss and he’ll give it to me.

When we see recent polls on homosexual marriage, we see that there has been a sea change in the culture, from even 10 years ago, on this subject.

Even among younger conservatives, support for homosexual marriage is gaining ground fast, if you can believe the polls.

I don’t care much about social issues.

But, like war, social issues certainly do care about you.

You WILL be dragged into the culture war, whether you know it or not, like it or not.

It's every bit a component of true conservatism as fiscal issues. If fact, they're indistinguishable at their core.

Plenty of libertarian libertines will support Rand. They are more worried about their weed than if the country goes to HELL in a hand basket. Many are Jews haters and anti-Christians as well. The Funny thing is these ‘Paulist’ and Paul himself talk about Founding Father so much, but they never seem to get around to the Founding Fathers quotes regarding the need of a Republic of have a solid belief and following in Judeo-Christian ethics for the Republic to survive.

Maybe we could bring back the social issue of all time: slavery. Hey, it’s only people, people.

lol. Another FREEPER lover down the tubes. How about somebody with principles for a change. Scott Walker, Michele Bachmann or Rick Santorum. You pick these ridiculous people like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz who turn out to be shams and wonder why they fooled you. Pick a true conservative for a change.

When we are forced to pay for other peoples birth control, forced to subsidize women who have out of wedlock children those are not just social but fiscal issues. The two go together.

—”Rand Paul is every bit as good a candidate as his dad.”—

And Ron Paul supporters agree, which is why they - to a person - all line-up behind Rand.

Amen FRiend. Democrats are in control because Republicans have waffled on morality. It’s just that simple.

Sounds to me that Rand Paul is starting to rant like a true ‘anything to win’ political person. I will go with a person who stands for upholding what this Nation was intended to be even though day by day political people like the Pauls would chip away at such. This does not mean I throw out all what the Pauls try to explain, but I do not accept them as of now as voice for the USA.

I don’t care much about social issues. Financial issues interest me.

You don't see how the two are inextricably joined together?
Homosexual "marriage" and all spousal benefits?
Transexuals in the military and the federal subsidizing of their surgeries?
Amnesty for illegal aliens?
The list goes on. You cannot be a "financial conservative" and not care about social issues because they are what is breaking (has broken) this country.
The government just cannot finance liberalism.

Rand Paul says to soften social issues. Rubio wants to soften amnesty
issues. McConnel and Bonehead want to spend like drunken sailors.
After all these GOPe’s soften issues conservatives hold dear, what will
be left to get conservatives to the polls? Not much.

No, the war will continue. Because the sodomites won’t just want “tolerance” as they said 10 years ago. Now they want endorsement. Next, they’ll want to force it onto the church and those who have religious objections thereof.

Then, they’ll want government to censor any books (e.g. the Bible) that speak the truth about their lifestyle choice.

How much of your life and personal beliefs do you want dictated by der Fuhrer?

Officially softening up on life, family, marriage, borders, guns, strong defense, etc, will officially mark the end of the GOP.

Soon the war on Amnesty will be over. Then the war on fiscal restraint
(BTW, there is no fiscal restraint) and then the war on social issues.
What then will get conservatives to the polls?

I don't think you can legislate things of the heart. However, we want leaders who stand up and speak out about strong values and morals. We should not also legislate or promote perversion and infanticide. The people who suggest that we go soft on social issues, have no problem with the outright promotion of perversion, vices and infanticide.

Going soft on social issues is a slippery road to financial and economic ruin as well. When there are not morals, the there is no problem with excessive taxation, excessive regulation e.t.c.

There is an attitude that somehow fiscal conservatism, social conservatism and libertarianism are mutually exclusive groups. There are large numbers of social conservatives who are also strong fiscal conservatives. I also find many social conservatives who have strong libertarian leanings.

Politicians who try to separate away fiscal conservatives from social conservatives, I think, may end up in defeat. Many special interests would like to see this separation, however they also don't have any interest in seeing conservatives win.

Then you’d better start figuring out how you’re going to earn my vote. Because you won’t get it without a socially conservative underpinning.
