Rand Paul: Republicans Need to Soften on Social Issues
Breitbart ^ | 3-16-2014 | Warner Todd Huston

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is warning Republicans that if they expect to be relevant in the future and grow the party they will have to soften on social issues.

In an interview with vocativ.com, Paul said he had "sort of a Jeffersonian belief in unity, peace and commerce with all" and that the best way to build the GOP for the future is to include people with whom they don't agree on every issue.

"I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues," Paul advised. "The Republican Party is not going to give up on having quite a few people who do believe in traditional marriage. But the Republican Party also has to find a place for young people and others who don’t want to be festooned by those issues......"

No it’s not. What we have are black robed tyrants ignoring the will of the people, overturning constitutionally passed laws and the executive branch that does not enforce law.

Rand Paul: Republicans Need to Soften on Social Issues

How can Republicans get any softer? Our leadership has the resolve and spine of cooked linguine.

If not for the rank and file that they need to make anything work, guys like Boehner would have teamed up with McCain, Obama, Pelosi and Reid to destroy this country long ago. They may succeed yet.

If Rand Paul really made such a statement, he proved beyond a doubt, that he is way too dense to lead a horse to water or sell water to a man dying of thirst on the desert.

Rand Paul is taking himself off my list.

The conservative position on LIFE is better. We argue for the life of that sweet innocent baby.

The conservative position on GUNS is better. We argue for the right of self-preservation.

The conservative position on NATURAL MARRIAGE is better. We argue against anything that makes our culture more dangerous for our children and grandchildren.

The conservative position on DEFENSE is better. We argue a strong America strength deters aggression.

The conservative position on ANYTHING is better because it is the position that has stood the test of time. We stand for the values and methods that have proven their honor and worth.

I like Paul, but Life and Marriage are off the table for me. There can be no agree to disagree on these two issues. Civil Union is as far as I am willing to go on same sex marriage.

Psssst....Rand. That isn't new, or unique. We've been hearing it since Goldwater. Oh and one more thing -- it doesn't work.

Rand Paul is a libertarian, and nothing wrong with that, but I think he should simply stop claiming to be a Republican. I like a lot of the things he says, but he’s got to figure out where he is in the grand scheme of things.

Like it or not, the social planks are part of the GOP’s platform (formal opposition to abortion, for example). There is clearly a wide range of difference in the opinions, expressions and actions of the different GOP candidates and politicians, and we can pick within them.

But saying that the GOP should abandon the social concerns and adopt the libertarian positions...without proclaiming himself to be a libertarian...is more than a little dishonest.

well put, P-Marlowe!

I don’t care much about social issues.

Then you are on the wrong forum. This website is pro-God, Pro-Guns, Pro-Life and Pro Traditional values.

The fact of the matter is that we are in this fiscal mess because America has turned from traditional social values. You can't have a free country run by hedonists and solipsists.

Rand Paul just did conservatives a huge favor by showing his hand. He just made the process of elimination so much simpler.

Social issues are just a important, if not more so, because they determine what kind of world we are going to bequeath our children and grandchildren. To become less conservative on this means letting the liberal wimps take over the party. Let them firm up their thinking and either take a righteous stance, or go somewhere else to dilute decency.

What Rand Paul apparently wants is for his supporters to define deviancy downward, eh?

When we abandon family values, government values fill the void.

Yeah, let’s continue to allow the left to rule social issues and change our culture like they have for the last 80 years. What’s the definition of insanity, again?

Too bad Paul sees turning American into Aztlan via a 30-million illegal alien amnesty as a “social issue”.

Civil Union is as far as I am willing to go on same sex marriage.

Then your tolerance is right where the perversionistas want it. Here in Delaware, it was maybe only 6 months after civil unions were legalized that serious bills for sodomarriage were submitted and considered.

Even if Roe were overturned tomorrow, many states would still have abortion. The pro-life movement has being doing a great job on changing people’s minds about a abortion on a personal level. But translating that to change on political level is a different matter.

It's been a huge winner at the political level with record numbers of pro-life laws being passed over the last couple of years at the state level. Liberal states can't even pass more laws making it easier to get an abortion.

If the GOP backs off those issues, it will be time for a third party and that party would win almost every election.

Republicans can lose until hell freezes over or we head into a communist state (or better, a civil war, that prevents one from being established before I will ever vote for a Republican that supports abortion rights or gay marriage or refuses to stand up for religious freedom.

I'll glad support Huckabee or Santorum over someone like Paul that wants to abandon social issues.
