Senators up pressure on Putin in Ukraine

A delegation of U.S. senators looked to up pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin Saturday, as tensions around Ukraine heightened.

A bipartisan group of eight senators traveling through Ukraine blasted the Russian leader, and called Sunday’s election on whether Crimea should join Russia rigged and illegitimate. Some of the senators called for the U.S. to provide military equipment to Ukrainian troops, and the group vowed crippling economic sanctions against Russia until the nation pulled back.

“This is the person that stated that the greatest catastrophe of the 20th century was the breakup of the Soviet Union,” said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) of Putin. “We have to treat him for what he is. That does not reignite the Cold War, but it means we enact steps that make it clear…that his ambitions will not be realized by the great community of nations that would resist him.”

Senate passes bill Thursday to send 15 million to Opposition leaders in Venezuela and....!!!!!!

On Thursday, the US ‘Senate’ introduced a bipartisan bill that compels Washington to target Venezuelan officials, who it says are involved in violence in Venezuela..........The proposed bill also includes an additional ‘15 million dollars in funds to help the Venezuelan opposition.’

Meanwhile, ten members of the US ‘House’ of Representatives are seeking to impose visa bans, asset freezes and financial sanctions on Venezuelan officials.

Venezuela’s foreign minister has slammed US Secretary of State John Kerry for meddling in the internal affairs of the country.

Putin plays the Great Game

Let's define what that means. It means Putin has a long term strategy. I believe he has an ultimate goal of destroying the United States. Whether this is born of political ideology or just megalomania is not the point when we have no counter long term goals on which we base a foreign policy. Someday, we're going to have to get one.

Both the senate and the house could vote 100% for action against Russia and mac daddy would just ignore them and draw another red line.

Mac daddy is Putin’s bitch and he knows it just like the rest of the world knows it also.

These senators are way way out of line. It is not their purview.

Putin and Obama have a lot in common.

Obama is going to make it a moot point.

The US Senate is afraid of Obama, yet think they will intimidate Putin?

Have you seen the horrible images of the slaughter and the refugees fleeing Crimea ahead of the barbaric Russian hordes?

Me neither.

I’m starting to feel real Alex Jonesish. This “crisis” just doesn’t add up.

BTW - it was Putin who tried to stop the Tsarnaev brothers, not these idiots.

Presently, the takeover and invasion with elite Russian forces has not required them to kill a lot of people. So there is some good in that. I am reading of people leaving out of fear, but not huge numbers. It’s possible they’ll grow use to living under Putinism.

The enitre referendum in the Crimea was in fact a rigged vote and a Russian sham in the same tradition as Soviet totalitarian elections.

Tell that to the Ukrainians abducted by Putin’s military forces in the Crimea when they dared to protest the Russian invasion. Putin’s Russian regime is fomenting the violence rather than stopping the violence. Yanukovich was Putin’s puppet in the Ukrainian government as witnessed by U.S. secretary of State Condoleeza Rice.

“These senators are way way out of line. It is not their purview.”

On the conrary, these are the Senators whose committee assignments give them the authority to guide U.S. policy and budgets giving economic and military support to the Government of the Ukraine in compliance with the guarantee of Ukrainian territorial integrity the United States became obligated to defend in the 1994 multilateral agreement under international law with Russia.

When was this "agreement" ratified by the Senate?

You sound like an apologist for the totalitarian Communist regimes given how you ignore the fact Cuban military forces and secret police are being used to intervene in Venezuelan internal affairs, kill, arrest, and otherwise intimidate the citizens of Venezuela and deny them their human rights guaranteed undedr the Charter of the United Nations. In effect you choose to deny the people of Venezuela the right to defend their lives and property by their own internal means and by calling upon support form external support to offset the external Communist totalitarian interventions in the internal affairs.
