At this weekends state party convention at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport, a group of influential California Republicans has an odd request for delegates: help turn California blue.
Around the globe, blue is identified with conservative, free market parties, while red is identified with social democratic parties, points out Shawn Steel, a former chairman of the state party who now serves as its representative on the Republican National Committee. It is why conservative-leaning Democrats in Congress were called Blue Dogs. Everyone knew what it meant.
Steel is among a group of Republicans that have introduced a resolution calling for the California Republican Party to adopt blue as its official color in branding materials. The informal coalition of Republicans, Red No More says that its time to conform to proper historical and international standards for political ideology, correct a 14-year-old mistake by the mainstream media and, in the process, confront the idea of a hopelessly divided nation.
The group has some high-profile backers, including two members of Californias congressional delegation. Should the Republican Party choose its own principles and symbols, or should we let the national media do that for us? asked Rep. Doug La Malfa, R- Richvale, in an email to delegates. Well, the answer should be obvious.

Almost all news organizations are based in communal lifestyle large cities. A news organization couldn't hire a balanced newsroom if they wanted to. Most conservative talent lives outside their daily commute range. Lobbying news organizations to correctly label leftism as commie red will just evoke a big evil laugh in your face.

California demographic’s don’t support your fantasy.
The Sate of California will soon be over 50% Hispanic.
And they will carry the majority vote, as well.
It is a beautiful state. Sad to see what has happened there.
And that has what to do with the Red vs. Blue mislabeling ?
This is a really stupid issue for the Republicans to be pursuing at this point in time. Honestly... do they really think they can change the whole U.S.? Not going to happen.
What they should be doing is embracing the Red. Talk about as American as apple pie - apples are red. As American as the red American Beauty rose. Figure out some way to make red work for them.
Right now they sound like a bunch of whiners. “Mommy, Jimmy took the blue blanket. I wanted the blue blanket. I don’t want the red blanket! What do you mean... be quiet and take your nap? I don’t wanna nap!!!”
“True Blue” - “Rather Dead than RED”
Could be new slogans ..????
Embracing the color of Communism/Fascism/Totalitarianism ? Are you serious ?
Most Americans embrace the Red, White and Blue. I highly doubt that the patriots who designed our first American flag had communism in mind when they included its red stripes. In fact, the Republicans could start using the official flag red color - Old Glory Red - as their official patriotic color.
Except that’s exactly what it is. Commies ain’t called “Blues.”
I remember explaining it to a Canadian member of an automotive discussion board back in the 90's, so it's definitely older than 2000. I'm guessing they switched it around the time H.W. Bush first ran after Reagan.
