Sheila R. Waeltermann, 22, of Park Hills, Mo.; Fawn F. Chambers, 50, of Doniphan, Mo.; and Robert E. Chambers, 42, also of Doniphan, were taken into custody for violating a city ordinance that prohibits openly carrying a firearm readily capable of lethal use, the news release said.
The three subjects were booked and released on municipal summonses to appear in court.

No one was injured, according to the news release.

A man answering the phone for the mall’s security office this afternoon said he had no comment when asked whether the mall had a no-weapons policy.

“Anybody know why they were open carrying?”

My guess is an act of civil disobedience with a lawsuit to follow.

I can be corrected but I thought MO. passed open carry. Looks like the violation was a City ordinance.

Probably, but the story omits one critical thing that I did not see - whether the guns were loaded or not.

The Town ordnance has a caveat added to the “open display” that says being readily capable of lethal use.

If they weren’t loaded and they had no ammo, they didn’t violate the law. More information needed on this.

Arresting honest, law-abiding non-violent citizens gets the arrest numbers up and allows the politicians to claim they are fighting crime.

Meanwhile, they deliberately and intentionally leave hardend violent criminals alone. Costs too much money to prosecute, beside the reverends go out in the streets and yell and scream.

I don’t like local preemption laws. It’s one thing to know about a state’s carry laws, but to have to know what each piddling little burg’s laws are is silly.

That means you DO like preemption laws, by which a state legislature preempts local jurisdictions from passing contrary laws, reserving the area entirely to itself to regulate or not.
