How modern global warming science took form

The foundation publications for modern global warming science meet no criteria for valid science. Methodologies are not given, measurements are not made and evidence is not described. Instead, preposterous fantasies on atmospheric studies are glibly mentioned with self-contradictory blather. The studies consist of nothing but a desired end point with fictitious methods of deriving the result. --SNIP--

There is nothing but modeling in global warming analysis, the simple reason being that the complexities and randomness of the atmosphere are totally out of reach of the science that can be applied. Only modeling is obscure enough to evade accountability to outsiders and provide any desired result without criticism.

The problem is, such a standard is not science. Science has a purpose, which is to put an end to error and falsehood through verifiable procedures. Muddled procedures only promote the charlatanism which science attempts to correct.

When the met guys can forecast a month's worth of weather within +/- 1° and +/- .1" precip every hour, every day, every month, for a couple years running and nail it, then maybe we can talk long term.

I'm not sure that that is necessarily a valid test. One might be able to discern a long term trend in the presence of high frequency noise. You can accurately determine the average value of a number of measurements, even if the variation between measurements is high. Likewise, trending can accurately be identified. Anyone who has successfully taken a course in introductory statistics should be aware of this.

The problem with global warming theory go much deeper. The entire enterprise reeks of pseudoscience and politics.

I studied engineering in college too and have a BSEE. I share your same doubts. Trying to model the atmosphere is a ridiculous undertaking and shouldn't be taken seriously.

Yet we are making public policy based on an insane proposition as climate change.

I want to see a survey or poll of independent "climate scientists" and their position on the global warming scare.

Independent means the following are excluded:

• Those who are employed by any government organization or bureaucracy in any capacity

but democrats have written room fulls of laws mandating government agencies like the EPA, IRS ,FDA, FEC , FCC etc. and obamacare. all these government programs do do is cripple business ,add to the cost of products, tax the hell out of us and businesses ,and take away our freedom

And having been introduced to some statistics back in the Pleistocene, I'm aware of its predictive utility.

Hence I can predict - with a very low MOE - that you're well aware of the point that was being made.

Nor will I belabor the points already made by others re the staggering number of variables that are at present but poorly understood.
Not to mention those of which there is currently little or no awareness whatsoever.

Who but an uber-gullible individual would put much confidence in those who, while presuming to dictate national policy/expenditure for decades or centuries to come,
lack the requisite technology/expertise to accurately predict a 70° day w/.3" of rain on April 14th ?

I just took a lot of HighSchool physics. I notice a complete lack of science in any discussion of global warming. I want to know things like how many of the 1000 watts per square meter of earth are retained by 400 ppm of carbon atoms. Where in the atmosphere does this occur? Also if the ocean temperature increases it seems there is an exponential increase in plankton which is the world’s biggest carbons sink. It seems to be a self correcting system.

The definition of greenhouse gase is that they hold the
heat that the sun puts down on the earth, onto the earth.

The whole atmosphere we live is a mixture of greenhouse
gases, and we couldn’t live on this planet temperature
wise without the atmosphere as it would go down to minus
150 at night as all the heat from the day
would all escape.

And of the mixture of gases in the air around us, CO2
actually transfers heat faster, than most gases in the
air mixture; IE it has less insulation value
than O2 and N2 that make up 98% of the air.

Guys making thermopane windows tried CO2 and found it
transfers heat faster than air... So if CO2 is one part
in 2500, in 2000, in 3000, ETC, in the whole air mixture,
which is all the greenhouse gase mixture we live in,
which we could temperature wise if we didn’t have it,

DOES NOT MEANS SQUAT...

Of course you get problems like the AGW HOAX getting
traction and support... because folks are not

Good information. I'm 51 years old and I remember when this pseudo science/political manipulation propaganda said the earth was cooling. I distinctly remember watching the Superfriends cartoon where they said pollution blocked the sun and the coldness caused us to burn more fuel which made more pollution which blocked more of the sun's energy. That was the extent of the "scientific terminology" used. Today the total scientific terminology is "co2 and greenhouse gas and heat". That's it.

I’ve studied fluid mechanics, basic physics, statistical mechanics and meterology. I wanted to see the equations and assumptions that go into a global warming model. I can’t find them. Can someone help me with this ?

Michael Crichton's Aliens cause global warming is a lecture he gave at Caltech. His polemical skills would have been useful in the AGW debate, but he died in 2008.
