Fred Phelps, Westboro Pastor, Ex-communicated, "at death's door" (NOT SATIRE)
Patheos.com/The Friendly Atheist ^ | 3/15/14 | Hemat Mehta/Patheos

You know Fred Phelps. You loathe Fred Phelps. You despise everything he stands for, like his family members’ infamous protests at soldiers’ funerals with their awful “God Hates Fags” signs. They’ve been a symbol for many years of the religion-based animosity against the LGBT community — to the point that they’ve been labeled a “hate group” and even the most fundamentalist Christian groups denounce his church’s activities....

/snip/...

Tonight, on Facebook, Nate (one of Fred's sons, excommunicated from the church) posted this:

I’ve learned that my father, Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the “God Hates Fags” Westboro Baptist Church, was ex-communicated from the “church” back in August of 2013. He is now on the edge of death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made. I feel sad for all the hurt he’s caused so many. I feel sad for those who will lose the grandfather and father they loved. And I’m bitterly angry that my family is blocking the family members who left from seeing him, and saying their good-byes.

In scanning the article, no one knows...or is saying...why Phelps was ex-communicated from his own church. The "church family" is being mum about it. No mention of Fred's condition is being made on their website.

I have seen posts from gay and lesbian people saying they should picket the funeral by the thousands, holding banners that say "We Forgive You".

What say you?

I say leave them alone and I’ll pray that Phelps finds God for real before he goes.

Matthew 6:5-6 “When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners [a]so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Supposedly Phelps has Alzheimer's and has been demented for years. Not sure what he could have done under those conditions for his kids to boot him from his church.

I don’t agree with picketing any funeral. Fred did it and I thought his actions were classless. They should try to be un-Fred-like.

“They’ve been a symbol for many years of the religion-based animosity against the LGBT community...”

Only because it is often conveniently ignored that this group is a fake church made up of a family of lawyers. Fred Phelps was a crusading civil rights attorney who, in middle age, decided to get a divinity degree, open his own church, and goad people into violating his civil rights so his family law firm, I mean “church” could sue the hell out of ‘em.

To say nothing of his very liberal politics and campaign donations, and his campaigning for Al Gore.

But, hey, when you can’t find a real example of bigoted Christians to hate, make up your own caricature of a hate group and that’ll be close enough for most people.

He didn’t picket “gay and lesbian” funerals. He picketed the funerals of fallen soldiers.

If it was really about homosexuality he would have protested at Heath Ledger’s burial.

Westboro Baptist is not a church, nor are any of its followers Christians. The church label is just part of the scam. They are a liberal hate group who call themselves a church for the tax relief and as a means of attacking Christians whom they despise.

They are phonies and everything that they do is phony.

Oh, I know, I know.

I am curious what the reaction will be when he does finally shuffle off this mortal coil.

And I’m still curious as to what he possibly could have done to get himself ex-communicated from his own “church”. Maybe he had a change of heart?

Bill Maher: God Is a ‘Dick’ And a ‘Psychotic Mass Murderer’ By: Tim Graham | March 16, 2014, 08:43 ET

At the end of Friday’s Real Time With Bill Maher, HBO’s sneering star uncorked another tirade against God and the Bible. His unbelieving guests – including Seth MacFarlane and Andrew Sullivan – yucked it up alongside him.

The smug atheist is already hating the forthcoming movie “Noah,” first that so many “stupid” Americans believe in the story, and second, if you believe that, then God is our world’s most psychotic mass murderer:

Phelps may have been excommunicated because he would not admit that Alzheimers had rendered him largely ineffective. As bull headed as he probably was, he, or those directly under his influence, still demanded to be treated as though he was still healthy and in control of his behavior. What I don’t get it why the son says it is ‘ironic’ that Phelps should be dying in this way. I don’t see any irony, unless some Hospice Attendants just so happen to be rainbow wearing “out” gay people. In a recent photo of Fred Phelps, I see that he looks a lot like Ted Turner, another unstable meglomaniac.

From my understanding of Romans 12:19 it’s against G-d, not your common citizen. I read stuff about Maher and Ed Shultz and Chrissie “Tingle” Matthews for entertainment only. I was sorry to learn that Piers Morgan was leaving because he was such a dolt he was hilarious. The Liberal Left have to keep these guys on the air for the sake of joyous entertainment.

The road to Damascus is a bumpy journey.... Just ask Saul!

When I read the article my mind went not to Paul but to King Nebuchadnezzar.

Because of his pride, God took his kingdom, turned all of his friends against him, even took his very sanity away from him so that he lived as a wild animal, eating grass in the field (dementia?).
