Final words from jet came after systems shutdown

Investigators have said someone on board the plane first disabled one of its communications systems — the Aircraft and Communications Addressing and Reporting System, or ACARS — about 40 minutes after takeoff.

Around 14 minutes later, the transponder that identifies the plane to commercial radar systems was also shut down. The fact that both systems went dark separately offered strong evidence that the plane's disappearance was deliberate.

On Sunday, Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said at a news conference that that the final, reassuring words from the cockpit — "All right, good night" — were spoken to air traffic controllers after the ACARS system was shut off. Whoever spoke did not mention any trouble on board.

I can definitely make out the logo on the tail. Surprised at how intact it is.

“Is there any legitimate reason why a pilot would turn off the transponder while a plane is in flight?”

If it was malfunctioning in some way. It’s always a good thing to be able to power off individual systems because you never know what might crop up.

Reportedly, they turned off ACARS first, before the transponder.

But, if the expert friend if right, the ACARS wasn't necessarily turned off. It wouldn't have transmitted until something significant happened.

That is interesting. However you would think that by now competent non vested investigators would have accumulated and confirmed pertinent information about these two. Not sure the Malaysians will do an open and thorough investigation. They fear the Chinese. Who do you think was the culprit?

Sorry, it turns out that the last recorded message appears to have been: "Roger, Roger!"

"Hold muh beer and watch THIS !"

"Beam me up, Scotty".

"Set course 3-4-4, mark 2-1, warp 5 - ENGAGE!"

Izzy, almost right. The ACARS sends out engine data reports at liftoff when the nose gear strut extends, at cruise initiation when the pilot pulls back on the throttle ( news media got this right; happened at 1:07), and at gear down. Since the gear never came down the third report was never sent.

They confirmed they took a flight simulator from the pilot’s home.

I would suspect a whole lot of pilots have simulators.

According to my Chinese wife, who regularly peruses Chinese Web-Sites, the consensus among MOST Chinese, is that the plane was attempting to get to Somalia - a Muslim country, known for Piracy...

FWIW

They can easily determine which pilot said those words..if a hijacking had taken place by someone ON the plane who had nothing to do with the cockpit they would have said something in code to tell control that a hijacking was taking place. I am still standing by my theory that this plane has landed somewhere, maybe it refueled, or is just sitting there, waiting for things to die down then they will fly it again

Real final words - Allah Akbar!

Yes, but we won't hear those words until the next public appearance of this aircraft. Especially, if instead of finding it, it finds us.
