McCain Blasts Obama For 'Timid' Response to Russia
NBC News ^ | March 17th 2014 | Carrie Dann

Sen. John McCain blasted the "timidity" of the Obama administration’s sanctions on Russian officials Monday, saying that the White House needs a "fundamental reassessment" of the relationship between the United States and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"This president’s response – I don’t know how it could have been weaker, besides doing nothing," McCain said during an appearance on MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports.

The Arizona Republican said that Putin is likely "encouraged by the absolute timidity" of the U.S. reaction to Russia's incursion into Crimea.

"I don’t know when the president and his advisers are going to wake up to what Putin is really all about," he added. "We've got to start with a fundamental reassessment of our relationship with him."

McCain, who just returned from a trip to Ukraine with seven other lawmakers, recommended that the United States instead provide Ukrainian forces with defensive weapons and training.

"One of the things that I would do is send some of our military to Kiev and find out how we can best assist them," he said.

You are a fool. Despite all of McCain’s faults, he would handle this the way it should be handled with a show of force.

I wonder how high his score was in electronic poker before he decided to act mad about something.

But could we do the same today? We didn't have a 17 trillion dollar debt load in the 1980’s

We could. We could frack. We could export coal and natural gas to Europe like they've been asking us to do and undersell and undercut the Russians. We could hit them where it hurts.

Unfortunately, what we don't have is a leader with the will of a Ronald Reagan. Or even a leader.

I disagree. The advantage we had back then was also technology. Via Clinton’s give-aways and educating/employing all the foreigners we have, that advantage has dwindled as well.

McCain was highly disappointed. He couldn’t find any Mooslimes to support in Ukraine.

How sad.

I understand there are still Japanese soldiers hiding out in caves because they don't know the war is over.

Shouldn't somebody ping McCain and tell him that the 2008 election is over?

I am going to catch flak for this but McCain is right on this one. We should not let Putin reassemble the Soviet Union while we stand there looking stupid. Severe sanctions and military aid to Ukraine would be money well spent, that is what Reagan would do. McCain is weak on domestic issues, on foreign policy he is usually only a little overzealous.

“But could we do the same today? We didn’t have a 17 trillion dollar debt load in the 1980’s”

US national debt represents 104% of GDP.

Russia’s debt - 10% of the GDP

American soldiers will not be fighting in Ukraine and chance of WW3 is 0.00% McCain’s trying to score some points, trying to compensate for Obama’s weakness.

Ukraine is on her own. They might have the moral support from the West, but it means nothing when facing tanks. The choice for Ukraine: they will fold against Russian aggression, or they will fight. If they fight, only hope of winning is inflicting enough casualties that Russians lose appetite to continue fighting. If they fold and there’s a Russia-friendly government, then resettlements to Siberia and another genocide are not far behind.

If Western Ukraine is threatened, Poland will enter the fray.

“Why isn’t McCain locked up at Guantanamo for meeting with and enabling terrorists in Syria?”

Maybe those savages in Syria were and are allies and best buds of the jerk in the White House.
