Latin America, long considered off-limits for Russian military outposts because of its proximity to Washington, is rapidly becoming the latest region targeted for Moscow’s expanding reach.

As the Kremlin was secretly planning its invasion of Ukraine in late February, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced Moscow’s plan to establish a permanent military presence in Latin America, including naval visits to ports in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.

Russia is also asking those countries to allow long-range bombers to refuel at their air bases.

You’re leaving out the worst most dangerous traitor of ‘em all. That would be McCain. What if Russian Senators (or whatever they call them) came to Mexico and urged them to put up a fight against us?

Third world countries have been invading US for decades with migration. We have so many internal problems, yet some people want us wasting more money overseas in adventures.

Economic strong-arming. Naval blockades. Fund/arm credible opposition parties. Use the CIA the way it was meant to be used.

Like in the good old days.

For example a military and alliances strong enough that countries remain our allies rather than invite in the Russians, Chines, or even Iranians, Syrians and North Koreans. Oy

Guess we'll have to use mexico as a buffer zone then, literally thousands of miles of “no man's land”, complete with mine fields and missile batteries. Of course we will relocate the indigenous population to south america, but they
will feel right at home with all of the other fascist/socialist regimes down there.

When I think about it, I would rather have Putin in the White House than the Marxist and wookie.

I really think it would be better for the country.

I mean, Putin is only a thief and dictator... he did impose a 7% flat tax and spark an economic boom where they haven’t had a boom for over a century. He keeps out the third world hordes...

Look at what we got!!!

I don’t like isolationism but unfortunately, the Russians and Chinese would have to conquer half the world before we wake up.

We’re not Oceania.

Hell I wish we could just leave the world to stew in its own sewage, too.

But it will swallow us up sooner or later. We're just too fat of a target.

I see no point in wasting blood and money in most of the mideast or Europe but south and central America are more immediate and direct security issues and its not just Russia. That doesn’t mean we need to go to war down south, only that we need to strengthen our ties there.

Venezuela has a close relationship with Iran and Chavez was even inviting jihadis to live there with an eye toward sending them north.

Who here is advocating isolationism?

Being a world power doesn’t mean using that power in a stupid manner, which is precisely what we’ve been doing.

But Putin is such a nice man. He wouldn’t hurt a fly or a hair on our heads. Besides, I would rather be a Putin communist than an Obama communist because he is much tougher than Obama. Will Vad be on American Idol soon? /s

He will go for El Salvador too. The liberals have power, and that would be an even more devastating loss.

Reaganesque restraint made us stronger and he certainly was no isolationist.

Would have you apologized to Kaddafi for when Reagan bombed him?

I’m talking since Reagan, with that Kosovo nonsense, and fighting Iraq for the Saudis (Gulf War I).
