Police didn’t charge him.

“Police didn’t charge him.”

I swear that the tone of the article at that point shows that the ‘reporter’ was very disappointed at that particular outcome.

“Police armed with assault rifles...”

This caption, under an image of someone holding a Glock.

No wonder they always mistake one for another!

Turns out the “gun” the tree crew had seen on Michael Smith of Norridgewock was just a life-sized tattoo of a handgun on his stomach....

Not a very smart tattoo --

Must be against the law to have a gun tucked in yer britches in Maine?
Another example of LEO over-reaction; or, an excuse to get some real world training in the assault techniques they’ve been learning...

Crimea is a test case to study and build upon, just as the many smaller examples like this one from Maine are. As was Waco. Boston, too, and I bet you can think of many others.

Can you guess where this train is going?

What's the point of having "a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the military if you never use it?

Of course, the editor had a choice of featuring a picture of a gun, which people need to see to know what a gun looks like; or a picture of a tattoo, for those who have never seen a tattoo.

I’m somewhat surprised they didn’t put a picture of a “tramp stamp” tattoo on some young woman’s backside. But being a risk taker, the editor probably figures that those individuals who would be shocked and horrified by seeing a picture of a gun at breakfast, as is the sensibility of such cream puffs, will not have enough intestinal fortitude to cancel their subscriptions because of it.

This IS ridiculous but a couple questions come to mind:

1] How’d the crew see the “gun”? Its like 30deg in ME this time of year.

2] What made them call the cops on this guy? Could THEY not tell it was a tat?

3] The cops reaction to showing up armed is sorta understandable given that they were led to believe there was an actual gun involved.

"Not a very smart tattoo -- "

I don't think I've ever seen a "smart" tattoo.

(Yes, I managed to get through my young and foolish years without ever getting a tattoo, getting killed on a motorcycle, or getting married to the wrong woman.).

Not that I like tattoos, I don't but why not a gun tattoo on any part of his body he wants it?

My son has a gun tattoo on his shoulder. Of course he was in his 30s when he got it and dad had nothing to say about it, except to tell him what a dummy he was for having any tattoo.

So he had a gun. Maine has shall-issue CCW, and allows open carry. So even if he DID have a gun, it would likely have been perfectly legal.

So what if he did have a gun on his own property. So what if he had 100 guns on his own property.

The cops reaction to showing up armed is sorta understandable given that they were led to believe there was an actual gun involved.

It is not illegal to be armed and tell someone to leave your property, as long as you do not threaten them with the weapon (which would have been impossible in this case). Either the tree cutters lied, which the article does not mention, or the police received a report of a legal action and decided to raid the man's home anyway.

If the cops were lied to they are scum for not charging the tree cutters with a false police report. If they were not lied to they are scum for breaking into the man's home with guns.

Lucky man. I managed two out of three. No tatt, no death on motorcycle (although we tried) but had to wait until wife no.2 to hit the mark. 28 years later still a go with no. 2.

THE MAN WAS NOT CHARGED?

Why were the police not charged for felonious assault with weapons? It is not against the law to possess a firearm on one’s own property. It is however against the law to violate someone’s rights and due process, while armed!

Felony, while armed.

Police armed with assault rifles

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTdhVxva5KU

Governor Cuomo and Mayor Bloomberg said that "assault weapons" are "weapons of war", and don't belong on the streets of America.

If that's true, why do the police need them? Who are the police at war with?

3] The cops reaction to showing up armed is sorta understandable given that they were led to believe there was an actual gun involved.

Why? Did they tell the cops that he was waving it around or something? The police had guns too. Should everyone have freaked out about that?

Norridgewock man with gun tattoo wakes up to armed police

There's a couple of pictures at that link:

Officer Porkins, who has OBVIOUSLY been "eating out the substance" of the local Connecticut peasantry,

And, Officer Tacticool MaryMallNinja with his "assault weapon", 'cause he's AT WAR with American "insurgents", aka "the peasantry"...

It seems the police thought there was an actual gun involved so they came prepared for worst case.

Why did the tree cutters report there was a gun? Are they some level of stupid I can’t comprehend?

That’s why I am not slamming the cops on this one. They didn’t decide it was a gun tattoo and come running heavily armed anyway. They would not have known there was not a more dire situation happening until they got there.
