The State Department in its 2013 human rights report on Afghanistan said the sexual abuse of boys, or bacha baazi, is on the rise in the region, with the practice becoming common in Kabul.
“The practice of ‘bacha baazi’ (dancing boys)—which involved powerful or wealthy local figures and businessmen sexually abusing young boys who were trained to dance in female clothes—was on the rise,” the State Department said in its human rights report.
The report noted an increase in rapes during the year, with most victims being children. In fact, sexual abuse of children reached an all-time high, according to the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC). …

I’ve read several accounts from soldiers who have fought there quoting the locals.....”Women are for children, boys are for pleasure”.
Its common knowlege that the dancing boys thing has caused major problems between our officers and theirs over there as our officers are horrified by the practice.
I guess if a woman can marry her dog, why not.
Hate to burst your bubble, but that kind of thing is endemic in MOST of the middle and near east. It has been so for as long as there HAS been a middle and near east. It's not NEWS or new. As you said, it's a very well known practice. So, why the shock if it's so WELL KNOWN?

My husband and I lived in the middle east for five long years and got to travel all over there. We never went to Afghanistan because we didn't WANT to. It was a PIT-HOLE then and it will ALWAYS be a pit-hole--ALWAYS.

I know a little history about TransJordan and the UN accord after the British left and how it was divided. Will someone please explain to me why the so-called Palistinians don't have their own country once Israel pulled out of the Gaza Strip? I've never understood that. They have their own homeland and have done nothing with it, starting with destroying the infra-structure that Israel left in place for them. Sheesh, how stupid and radical can you be to destroy Israeli greenhouses and other infra-structure?

Until then, I will cruise in my newly acquired 1958 Chevy Impala listening to the Shirells, Supremes, Four Tops, Temptations, early Stones, etc. while trying to remember when this Country had values that worked before the 60's self-indulgent generation, which I'm a member. That said, there are certain values that have served mankind well - like honesty, integrity, self-accountability, courtesy, shame et al.
