Reed's message to liberals--especially those who invest their hopes in the Democratic Party--is stark.
Since the 1980s, he writes, liberals, activists and social movement organizations (the combination of which Reed labels "the left") have been on the defensive. Instead of determining how to advance a broadly popular and egalitarian vision, this left has narrowed its "social vision" and its time horizon, keying actions to the next election cycle.
"Each election now becomes a moment of life-or-death urgency that precludes dissent or even reflection," Reed writes. "For liberals, there is only one option in an election year, and that is to elect, at whatever cost, whichever Democrat is running." According to Reed, this has increasingly locked the left into a downward spiral, hitching its wagon to a more and more conservative Democratic Party.

They are relying more and more heavily on forcing their views through use of government mandates than in convincing through open and honest debate.
How far to the Left does one have to be (in American terms) to say that the current Democrap Party is “conservative”?

That is so true and a great statement of insight.
The author could be using that in a general sense, in that the Dems are now so locked-in to their worldview that they’re no longer willing to consider changing their ways, hence “conservative”.

Today’s Liberals should be called what they are, Marxist/Leninist/Communist. They should be just as proud of the terms as Obumbo’s father was, and true Americans should shun them, just as we did in the days of the Soviet Union.
Lots are calling them Marxists and Leninists. Few call them Communists. Not sure if we can call them that because of the McCarthy factor. Being anti-communist is seen as worse than being communist.

The democrat party is a collection of ethnic and demographic groups who all want something from government. They have no principles other than to elect the candidate who is a member of the most favored group in that election cycle. Obama was elected because he’s black. Hillary will be supported because she’s a woman. It doesn’t matter what they think. And so to appeal to the broadest spectrum of low information voters, they end up with policies that committed Leftists are having difficulty supporting. But alas, who else do they have to vote for? Therein lies their dilemma.
Don’t forget the primary recruiting method of the Left -
“you want to help people, don’t you?”
They are either becoming more bold, or more desperate.
In many cases they’re letting their true anti-Christ agenda be exposed.

I'm not conservative, but there are Democrats who cherish and defend the Constitution. The early Democratic Party was the party of limited government, a strict-interpretation of the Constitution, and State Sovereignty. Some of us still adhere to those concepts. At least one of us is running to restore our constitutional Republic.

Liberals spend so many words saying next to nothing...
I call them Wannabe Commies or Wannabe Yuppies. I had to explain to a local restaurateur originally from Albania that these people pretend to be cosmopolitan, but they’re really just citified hicks and yokels and are clueless to other cultures. Poor man opened a Balkans restaurant featuring my favorite dishes from that part of the world which I can barely pronounce. He told me with sadness in his eyes that the people made fun of the names and would not even try the dishes, so all he does is make pizzas and stock the salad bar. Poor man!

The current Democratic party is about as far left as I've ever seen it - Socialistic, Big Government, Immoral, Spendaholic and Race baiting all to the core right now. It supports the Kelo Decision and Extremism in the EPA; stripping us of our property rights. It supports giving Illegals our votes. Need I go on?
To vote Democratic is to support the above, don't you know?
