Anita Hill Explains How Joe Biden Screwed Up Clarence Thomas' Confirmation
Business Insider ^ | 03/21/2014 | CAITLIN MACNEAL, TPM

Posted on 03/21/2014 7:34:15 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Anita Hill, the woman who accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment, on Thursday said that as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice President Joe Biden did a "terrible job" overseeing Thomas' confirmation hearings in 1991.

Hill said on HuffPost Live that Biden failed to call witnesses and experts to testify who could have shed light on the sexual harassment claims made about Thomas.

What I remember was that she followed Thomas to a second job.
She made no complaints for ten years.
Then lots of people came forward to testify she was trouble and had a ton of problems.

Democrats and Barbra Walters loves her because she serves the accusations, but she was not found credible.

Senator Biden was the first questioner. Instead of the softball questions he’d promised to ask, he threw a beanball straight at my head, quoting from a speech I’d given four years earlier at the Pacific Legal Foundation and challenging me to defend what I’d said. ”I find attractive the arguments of scholars such as Stephen Macedo, who defend an activist Supreme Court that would strike down laws restricting property rights.” That caught me off guard, and I had no recollection of making so atypical a statement, which shook me up even more. “Now, it would seem to me what you were talking about,” Senator Biden went on to say, “is you find it attractive the fact that they are activists and they would like to strike down existing laws that impact on restricting the use of property rights, because you know, that is what they write about.”

Since I didn’t remember making the statement in the first place, I didn’t know how to respond to it. All I could say in reply was that “it has been some time since I have read Professor Macedo … But I don’t believe that in my writings I have indicated that we should have an activist Supreme Court.” It was, I knew, a weak answer. Fortunately, though, the young lawyers who had helped prepare me for the hearing had loaded all of my speeches into a computer and at the first break in the proceedings they looked this one up. The senator, they found, had wrenched my words out of context. I looked at the text and saw that the passage he’d read out loud had been immediately followed by two other sentences: “But the libertarian argument overlooks the place of the Supreme Court in a scheme of separation of powers. One does not strengthen self-government and the rule of law by having the non-democratic branch of the government make policy.” The point I’d been making was the opposite of the one that Senator Biden claimed I had made.

Joe Biden was a MAJOR backstabber. While everybody else chuckles at “ol Joe”, I distain him with a passion. ONe of his first votes in Congress was to cut off funding to SE Asia, which led to the slaughter of the Killing Fields and the Boat People tragedy. He also stood against Ronald Reagan in is fight against Communism. He also stabbed Clarence Thomas in the back (probably because he’s a Democrat and Democrats LOATHE strong black men).

What I remember about this whole Thomas/Anita Hill debacle is that at the time, a greater percentage of the people believed Clarence Thomas.

A year later, after the press had slanted the story and rammed “sexual harassment” down our throats, more people sided with Anita Hill.

Says quite a bit about the corrupt bias of our media.

I believed Hill in the early 90’s. And I was forever turned around when I saw her (during the Lewinsky saga)on morning TV giving Clinton a pass by saying ‘well, you really have to consider his voting record’ in considering the sexual harassment charges against him. I had been a Feminist-lite until that time. It was then I realized that Feminists aren’t really for women, they are just for Left-Wing causes and USE women to further their radical agenda. Hill had said ‘women don’t lie about sexual harassment’. But all the women who came out and accused Clinton were liars and were to be destroyed?? Leftists are hypocrites of the highest order and get away with it because Big Media always covers for the multitude of LIES.

Militant Feminism is actually a war on femininity. It is part of a wider variety of Egalitarian/Collectivism, which encourages people to see their actual Blessings as limitations, and to pursue make-believe grievances, rather than develop to their full potential. On the Feminist aspect of the virus, see Feminist Delusion.

Put another way, the idea that Men & Women are competing interest groups might have been a fit subject for ancient Greek comedy. It hardly makes for happy families with a constructive future.

“These people NEVER give up. Never give up. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER give up.”

Very true. The left hammers away until it wins even if it takes decades. In contrasts the GOP, representing conservatives, seems to compromise at every turn rather than risk unpleasant confrontation.

Who wins 90% of the time? Those who aggressively promote their point of view or those who are willing to compromise principles?

Ha. She lied on a job application under “reason for leaving last job” and said “sexual harassment” and thought nobody would notice - until the “witch hunt” press found her and thoght they had the perfect weapon against Thomas.

It’s why she didn’t want to cooperate at first. They forced her so she had to run with it.

I was hoping that now, at her age, she would come clean. Nope...

They never give up because they are totally blinded by their hatred of others. Whatever the woman had within her of any actual value, was not as important to her as her hatred of a man who believed in Conservative principles.

Her publisher, here, does not apparently want to debate Mr. Justice Thomas' principles. They would rather try to revive a very old smear. Disgusting, but typical of the Left, which has always been hate motivated.

Anita Hill is positioning herself for Hillary’s
Campaign. They are friends. She managed to show up
When the Clinton’s visited Martha’s Vineyard
And run some sort of liberal women’s sessions
While there. Hill is up for the upcoming election
To pump up Hillary and to take shots at Biden.
Just another incompetent liberal female lawyer.

I would be really surprised if Ben Carson has a Hermon Caine problem,
and given that he is not up as a SCOTUS nominee and unlikely to run for POTUS (I think he is too smart for that) its not worth Dems trying to find a disgruntled Anita Hill to try to take him down anytime soon.

He's very unique, a rare gem in my Marxist state of Maryland.

Thanks for these quotes from Thomas. I remember the hearing and Biden was very upset at Clarence Thomas’ view on property rights.

It was after his property rights views became known that they went after him with Anita Hill's outrageous accusations.

Biden was a good socialist even back then. He said something to the effect that the government would go broke if it had to compensate everyone for property taken from them.

From Wikipedia:

“At one point in the beginning of the proceedings, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Joe Biden asked Thomas if he believed the Constitution granted any sort of property rights to individuals as described in Richard Epstein's book Takings: Private Property and the Power of Eminent Domain, which had been published by Harvard University Press in 1985. Biden held the book up for Thomas to see and denounced its contents. In their book, Epstein argues that the government should be regarded with the same respect as any other private entity in a property dispute. The Cato Institute later paraphrased Biden’s general line of questioning in the hearing as, “Are you now or have you ever been a libertarian?”[25]”

She also claimed that she was so distraught over the harassment that she sought medical treatment. If someone is as traumatized as she claimed she was, why would you actively seek out, repeatedly call, and request employment with the same person who allegedly did the harassing? She’s nothing but a lying beyotch. There were no other accusers at the time, and none have ever come forward in all this time.
