Rush Limbaugh selection in children’s book competition causes a stir

Rush Limbaugh - radio host, conservative firebrand and... children's book author of the year?

The Children’s Book Council and its Every Child a Reader program released on Thursday their author-of-the-year finalists for their annual Children’s and Teen Choice Book Awards.

Limbaugh is one of the four finalists, and his nomination has prompted outrage on social media, given the host’s often-incendiary nature.

Limbaugh's book is titled, "Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans" – a time-traveling tale of colonial America and the latest of two books in the "Rush Revere Series" published last year by Simon & Schuster.

Limbaugh, an outspoken figure in the political world, often expresses controversial sentiments on his radio program. Recently, Limbaugh blasted Pope Francis' economic views as "pure Marxism," and, in 2012, he called Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" for her support of women's access to birth control.

The Children’s Book Council issued a public letter, posted to its website and Facebook page, defending its finalist selection process following the uproar online and insisting that the author of the year finalists "are determined solely based on titles’ performances on the bestseller lists."

"Some of you have voiced concerns over the selection of finalists from bestseller lists, which you feel are potentially-manipulable indications of the success of a title. We can take this into consideration going forward, but cannot change our procedure for selecting finalists after the fact," the organization said in the letter.

The CBC letter goes on to say the kids, who will start voting next week, ultimately decide which author wins in each of the six categories, including best author. The letter goes on to assure that the organization has a procedure in place to protect against fraud and adult's voting in the contest.

You nailed it. He didn’t directly call her names. It was more of an analogy, IIRC, clever and humorous. Regrettably, he felt compelled to apologize.

Nothing Rush writes would win favor with libs. If he DID write a book including 2 Mom’s, pedophiles, 2 Dads etc they’d chastise him for mocking them.

Rush has been a godsend to America, and I say this despite the fact that I am furious over RUSH’S Kool-Aid drinking acceptance of James Kallstrom’s bizarre explanation of the downing of TWA800 over New York in 1996, which HE (Rush) reiterated yesterday.

Yeah, agree with you 100%.

Kallstrom ignored over two hundred eyewitnesses many of whom had professional backgrounds allowing them to understand exactly what they saw. And, the "other" casual observers independently corroborated one another.

Kallstrom: Nothing to see here folks so just move along. (All to get Clinton re-elected).

Kallstrom is a real tower of integrity. /s

Another inaccuracy. The book referred to is the first in the series, not the "latest." Another "journalist" more concerned about pushing an agenda than reporting facts.

It was more of an analogy, ...

Like what do you call someone who wants someone else (taxpayers) to pay for her condoms at $1000 per year (or so) and how much sex does that represent???

That is NOT what he said. It’s a bald faced lie.

“Did Limbaugh actually call her those things”

No. He did not. It was far more nuanced. He was making the larger point of questioning giving someone taxpayer money to pay for their birth control... a lot of birth control.
The “college student” in question was in her late twenties and in reality is a professional feminist activist that the Dems trotted out for hearings. Typical.

OMG! NOOOOOOOOO

However any commie liberal book will be welcomed enthusiastically

We need to start doing tese things in pairs. Try to submit a Bible some where, have someone else tryt to submit a Koran

Want to read a Rush Limbaugh book? have someone else offer to read Mein kampf.

We need to expcse this and NOT let the argument be just one sided (agaisnt us) They can’t turn down one and not the other - so they are screwed either way.

“What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute.” — Rush Limbaugh

Yes, GO RUSH GO. As Rush has often said, he wrote this book to educate today's children in the truth about the founding and founders of this country. He felt a strong need, and rightfully so, to reach our children, who are being taught by communists/marxists/socialists in our schools. I support Rush, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck and other conservatives who step up to pen informative books, and I don't mind whatsoever that they take time on their programs to discuss these books.

“Fluke a “slut” and “prostitute” for her support of women’s access to birth control”

Did Limbaugh actually call her those things, or is that a malicious misinterpretation of something he said? Something both pointed and funny, perhaps?

Actually, what Fluke wanted was government-paid birth control for women. I agree that this makes her a slut and a prostitute.

If she had been willing to pay for it on her own, there would have been no problem.

Aside from the obvious bias from the office they ignored Sandra Fluck’s children’s book.

“Sandra’s big picture book on how to use $3000 worth of birth control that someone else paid for.”

His comments towards Fluke were pretty direct.

However, as I recall, Fluke held a fake pres conference designed to look like she was testifying before conference, basically demanding free birth control as a human right.

Personally, I believe the name-calling was out of line and ultimately gave the MSM too much ammo to attack and discredit Rush, when a truly “more nuanced” approach would have shown her for the political tool that she was.

The latter. Also, she didn't just support women's access to birth control (which would be pointless since legally all women in America already have access to birth control), but rather access by all women and some girls to "free" birth control at taxpayer's expense.

Kallstrom is a disgrace who should be in lock-up. He doesn’t have an honest bone in his body, re TWA800. And Rush has fallen for the scandalous official report. I am still livid about this every time I think about it. Bob

I'm sure the CBC is working closely with local teachers' unions to make sure that process is completely fair and unbiased. < /s>

I think Sandra Fluke actually said that she spent something like $5,000 per year (some ridiculous number) on birth control. Anyone who uses that much is definitely a...something!
