Move over, Animal House; Hollywoods got nothing on the federal government when it comes to buying booze.
Federal spending records show the government spends seven figures a year stocking its cabinets with wine, beer and liquor.
In fiscal 2013, the last year for which there are complete records, the government spent almost $1.3 million on alcohol, more than quadruple the $315,000 spent in 2005. The spending on liquor has increased over the years toward the $1 million mark, with 2013s tab growing more than $400,000 over 2012.
You could say that Washingtons quite literally drunk on other peoples money, said Jonathan Bydlak, president of the Coalition to Reduce Spending, a fiscal watchdog that advocates reduced federal expenditures.

Most of that was at the White Hut.
Not drunk... Evil...In fact government at all levels attracts extremely controlling evil people as well as the mentally ill...
When I was able to submit receipts against government projects the one inviolable rule was no alcohol. It could be for food or even a tip. But not one drink. What has changed?
The true amount is probably much higher if you add in all of the money spent with gubmint credit cards at restaurants for expensive meals and drinks. If you also added in all of the money spent on wining and dining by gubmint funded “non profit” companies the amount is stratospheric. Credit card abuse is endemic within federal, state, city, and nonprofit entities.
That wouldn’t cover congress’s bar bill...
it is like 70 times that amount
Several decades ago our borders were not a violent free for all, with millions pouring illegally in unabated, with government aiding, abetting and supporting the destruction of our own demise.
When people tell ya the government at all levels is reckless and out of control, ya better believe um.
One assumes the alcohol is for ‘state’ events. It just shows how much the Obama’s like to party at our expense.
I’ll bet Hillary consumed the greatest part of that.
We know SSA and DHS spent more then that at weekend seminars.
Is this just the booze on hand in offices?
Half of that was Boner.
Of all the non-stories out there, this one has got to be close to leading the pack.
2.7M federal employees had an annual bar bill of less than .50 each.
What shocking extravagance!
It wasn’t the 2.7 million federal employees footing the bill for this drunken minority of elites at the top. And this is not about all federal employees to be sure.
OK. Much of this was apparently spent for embassies.
There are roughly 300 embassies and consulates around the world. That’s about $4300 each. Doesn’t seem like a huge bill for groups that have to host multiple formal dinners.
I believe there are a LOT of private companies that spend more than this. In fact, I was along on a company outing for about 20 people where they dropped >$5G in one evening. Although admittedly that was for food as well as drink.
And I doubt the group I was with set any records.
If there’s one building that you can point to as never having been “dry” at any time during Prohibition, it’s the U.S. Capitol.
I figured Pelosi ran up that much tab on her own.
