Yacht sailing couple wanted for welfare fraud

A couple who collected food stamps and other public assistance from Minnesota while living on a yacht in Florida were being sought on fraud charges, prosecutors said on Friday.

Colin Chisholm III and his wife, Andrea Chisholm, accepted more than $165,000 in public assistance between 2005 and 2012 before benefits were terminated, according to prosecutor Mike Freeman in Hennepin County, Minnesota.

Charges against Colin Chisholm were filed in February but they were kept sealed while police searched for the couple, Chuck Laszewski, a spokesman for Freeman, said on Friday. "They know by now we are looking for them."

The Chisholms are each charged with a felony count of wrongfully obtaining public assistance in excess of $35,000, the highest threshold under Minnesota law. Andrea Chisholm was charged on Thursday.

An Attorney General and Feds might be interested in the activity of all those aliases.

Exactly. I know of one couple in DC that has collected over $400,000 a year, while living in government subsidized housing. They also dine regularly on steak, lobster while washing it down with champagne all paid for by the taxpayers!.

Pictures, names, addresses and phone numbers should be posted for this scum and they need to go viral. Harass them fight into the waiting arms of law enforcement.

As a yachtsman, I must take umbrage with the offensive coverage given to this charming couple. We here on the site must, MUST I say, keep an even strain on the old springline and not over-react

The federal government, must, MUST I say, use landlubber tax monies to support the yachting lifestyle. Many marinas are actually bordered by very poor ghetto-type neighborhoods and by showcasing an easy-going, oh-so-social lifestyle that is the hallmark of yachtsmen everywhere it sets a marvelous example for the lower classes. Anything to improve the cut of their jib.

IMHO, well worth the paltry sums invested by the State of Michigan and the Obamagov.

This is why I support a policy that all state and federal govt financial benefits be turned into an open book and be searchable by name (corporate and individuals) and address. It would include all corporate welfare, special tax’abatement, unemployment comp, welfare, food stamps, disability, ssi, etc. If the government is writing a check we should know where it goes.

Those found guilty of such fraud should certainly face punishment much greater than that imposed on copying a $5 dvd
