Nairobi (AFP) - Kenya's parliament has passed a bill allowing men to marry as many women as they want, prompting a furious backlash from female lawmakers who stormed out, reports said Friday.
The bill, which amended existing marriage legislation, was passed late on Thursday to formalise customary law about marrying more than one person.
The proposed bill had initially given a wife the right to veto the husband's choice, but male members of parliament overcame party divisions to push through a text that dropped this clause.
"When you marry an African woman, she must know the second one is on the way, and a third wife... this is Africa," MP Junet Mohammed told the house, according to Nairobi's Capital FM.

>>Well ... I’ll tell you this ... I don’t know how they do it, because it’s difficult enough living with just ONE woman ... :-) ...
A strong pimp hand.
Isn’t that what Obama’s step dad did??
Did they check with Obongo on this first??
To paraphrase a common PC line, “Male privilege.” /S
Yes he certainly did.
“Two” of them like Michelle Obama?! OMG ... I’d commit suicide.
Perhaps polygamy is coming back into vogue. I suspect it will have much more staying power than ‘same sex marriage’.

He doesn’t care about wives, as long as he can get sumthin-sumthin on the down-low.
Yeah. This is plain stupid. A suicidal twist to ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’.
I think that decision will be up to Mooch.
Who is this “Kenya” fellow and why didn’t he get permission from his wife before doing this?
Won’t gays want this too? I mean, how else would fella be able to marry his entire bowling team?
the solution to a woman is not a second woman. it shows the guy is insane, doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Well, maybe eventually ‘marriage’ will consists of as many men, women, dogs, goats, siblings, inflatable dolls, robots, etc, as a person wants. When marriage means anything, it means nothing.
From what I’ve heard from African Methodists, one of the more countercultural things about being an African Christian is monogamy.
Does this mean we are getting a Second and third Lady in the White House.?
Just in time. Michelle’s off in communist china somewhere....
Lawdy! I be daddyfyin.
Not his step dad, his real dad.
His real father -— supposedly.
Not as bad as Polyandry
Can you imagine having to put up with more than one prick?
Must be Tea Party.
Fruits of Islam
In the villages, each wife has her hut, the husband his own. We’ve had the wives in polygamous marriages express their sympathy for western wives in monogamous marriages.
“We feel sorry for you because you have to put up with him ALL the time. With us, we can just tell him to go to another wife.”
Not saying that I agree with them, but different cultural perspectives are always interesting.
Now that the “opinion leaders” in US and nearly all of Western civilization have embraced legalized homosexual “marriage”, the push to legalize polygamy cannot be far behind. After that (if Western civilization still survives) it will be a race between marrying pet animals (not necessarily bestiality) and legalized incest.
The old “slippery slope” is looking more and more like one of those “I-dare-you” 150 foot fall water slides.
Well ... I do understand that there are “cultural differences” - but in our case, we have to ask, “Where did our cultural standard come from?” And in that case most people know that it came from what God said about creation and “man and woman” - and also it additionally comes from New Testament pronouncements on marriage (both of which come from the Word of God).
SO ... what makes this standard better than all others? Very simply, it comes from God the Father, Jesus the Messiah of Israel and the Holy Spirit (the Triune God) who created us and all things which were made.
That makes it “absolutely authoritative” the way we look it it (”we” being the ones who recognize the Triune God and that He exists and that He made everything).
Good. Now the wookie is free to do it without 0b0z0's consent.
Same from my Kenyan Christian and Catholic neighbors.
By bringing up cultural differences, I did not mean to imply that “if it is their culture, then it is OK.” I merely meant to show that different cultures look at situations quite differently.
Here is an FR thread on the BBC coverage of the same story;

What about the goat?
Who'd have her?
“Perhaps polygamy is coming back into vogue. I suspect it will have much more staying power than same sex marriage.”
It is with the people that are filling the planet; the Western feminists have dug their own graves. The birthrates from polygamous cultures are astounding; Osama Bin Laden had fifty siblings.
I didn’t even know Kenya was married. Zero’s birthplace eases the way for Islamic takeover ping.
