Gay couples wed across Michigan in 24 hours same-sex marriage was legal (Stay issued)

PONTIAC, MI -- It was fun while it lasted for hundreds of gay Michigan couples who got married Saturday.

With a voter-approved ban against same-sex nuptials out of the way for about 24 hours, couples rushed to tie the knot in four Michigan counties where clerks held special weekend hours to issue marriage licenses.

But an appeals court put a stop to the immediate wedding planning, issuing a temporary stay of U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman's Friday ruling that called the Michigan Marriage Act unconstitutional.

Friedman issued a decision that rejected all of the state's arguments that voters made a rational decision in approving the law in 2004, and went as far as praising the plaintiffs for seeking to "ensure that the state may no longer impair the rights of their children and the thousands of others now being raised by same-sex couples."

Why the “special weekend hours” for this subgroup of citizens? Seems like some county clerks need to be fired.

Yup, they should be considered null and void on that basis alone.

Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum married the couple. She said she decided to open her office to issue marriage licenses Saturday after a sleepless Friday night.

It was something special that nobody else gets.

It was a political stunt pulled by 4 county clerks. The “marriages” should be voided and the taxpayers reimbursed for the unauthorized use of state and county resources.

Patriots need to work with BOTH their state and federal lawmakers to do the following. There needs to be state and federal laws to make it a crime for judges to use the vague terms "constitutional' and "unconstitutonal" without officially referencing constituitonal clauses and relevant court precedents when delivering their decisions. In other words, the indicated terms when used as independent justification, essentially a "because I said so," make it easiy for activist justices to pull over the eyes of low-information voters and legislate PC "laws" from the bench.

In fact, the following references from a related thread help to substantiate the constitutionality of Michigan's Marriage Act imo, contrary to the judge's decision.

Are lawyers behind this so they can get more divorce cases?

Not only is the Federal government totally out of control, the two bit buffoons in many local governments have gone over the edge also. Once Americans regain their senses, we need to put a lot of these clowns in jail.

the county clerks need to be jailed for 93 days. bunch of trash. the problem is the Odumb@$$ Justice Department will be in lansing on Monday saying that the stay is not enforceable. If the Odumb@$$ DOJ shows up the MSP should arrest them too, and have immediate trial and hang them for treason the next day.

A great campaign issue for 2014 and 2016 would be for the GOP to run against all the Democratic appointed judges who have ruled in favor of Gay Marriage.

Name the judges and name the president that appointed each judge.

From there the Republicans must promise to pass a Marriage Amendment and repeal or revise the 14th Amendment to remove the Equal Protection Clause.

The judge who ruled in favor of gay marriage was a Reagan appointee.

Great. That bastion of morality and right thinking... Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

I can count the decent judges on that court without having to take off my mittens.

There is a strategy at play in the whole gay agenda. It appears that Freidman’s law clerk concealed the fact that she was a lesbian to get in the door and then she had years to work on him.

Legalize gay “marriage” and enact all 2700 pages of it in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve... and have buried in there that while queer marriage is ok... divorce is not.

Homosexuals notoriously can not remain faithful or monogamous in their faggotry... so just let the stress, anxiety, grief and depression of being legally trapped in a resentful “relationship” drive them to murder-suicides.

A misguided lawyer in black robes overturned a rational decision by the voters of the State of Michigan. The decision was rational because men living with men are friends; women living with women are friends.

Men and women are NOT interchangeable no matter what lawyers in black robes say, no matter what the silly younger generation thinks and wants.

From the story in post 20, it looks like the lesbian law clerk emotionally manipulated the judge right down to bringing the kids to court the day the arguments were heard.

Nice to see unelected twerps abusing their powers of office to thwart the will of the voters.

“couples rushed to tie the knot in four Michigan counties where clerks held special weekend hours to issue marriage licenses.”

This is exactly what they did in CA. Then it was the reason for the “equal protection ruling.” You see, since some people were already married, then they would be harmed by a ban on their marriage, as a result gay marriage must be legalized!

I would demand that those clerks show records of how many hetero marriage licenses were given on Saturday, how many business licenses were applied for, how many birth certificates were obtained, how many death certificates were sought, how many people asked for a concealed carry permit?

If they can’t, then it appears that they have violated the equal protection clause and should seriously consider stepping aside and letting someone else do the job.
