More and more Russian pols and pundits are making snide remarks about getting Alaska back.
I except Russia to take everything east of the Dnieper River.
I spent 20 years plus in the US Army. I served in the 1970-1992. I spent 10 years in Germany. One of those tours was in an armored cavalry unit on the east-west German border pulling border patrol. We trained, trained, trained on keeping the Red horde from coming across the Fulda Gap. Now all that was wasted. The Soviets simply out waited us. Let us come home. Waited until the stupid United States elected an idiot punk community communist organizer as president. Now it has. Now the Soviets have no opposition from coming across the border. Soon, Comrade Putin will pull off shortly what the Reds wanted for 70 years.
And the saddest part of all this is... the majority of Americans have no clue or care about this issue whatsoever.
If people do not feel safe in Nazi controlled ukraine they should annex to Russia. Dittoes Alaska. Socialist USA.
Why not just give Western Ukraine back to Poland.
Galicia, Volhynia, and Eastern Ruthenia SHOULD secede from Ukraine and join the EU, and NATO if they wish.
Even today, when you are traveling in the Old Empire, you can recognize where you are. Krakau, Lemberg, Prag, no matter - you know where you are just by looking around.
L’viv (Lwow, Lemberg) was never Russian and never will be.
Ukrainian neo-Nazis several weeks ago called for the taking of Polish territory for the new Ukraine. A more logical change would be Lvov returning to Poland.
All Russia wants is half of what is left. Of course a month from now they’ll be back and ask for half of the remaining. This will continue until there’s not enough of Ukraine left to put an outhouse.
Democracy in action, the Arab Spring was so glorious( sarc.)thanks to Obama and now we have a Slavic Spring too, an unanticipated extra! After all Saint Obama started it!
From the leftist POV Putin is doing what Obama did , but in this case it is art imitating garbage. Putin annexed Crimea firing only 2 rifle shots at Sevastapool. No way Obama can even come close to that, because Obama had jihadists attack his own people in Benghazi to thumb his fascist nose at the U.S. military industrial complex.....WOW!(No contest /S.) At least Putin does not betray his own on the face of it.And this is way far from over, Pooty is just getting started.
I predict Obama may get so desperate he will call in G. W. Bush as a special envoy to Russia, Pooty and Bush actually enjoyed each others company.
Ukraine should respond in kind to Russia, but in this case, call for Russia to relinquish territories that are not majority Russian. They could even throw a lug wrench into things by calling for the “repatriation” of Siberia with China. The twist here is that the Chinese have quietly been sending a lot of Chinese into eastern Siberia, to demographically take it over, which has been bugging Moscow.
An insanely stupid comment: “Zhirinovsky often is the voice of Putin.”
That’s like saying, “Buchanan is often the voice of Bush.”
This is going to get worse before it gets better, if it ever gets better.
At least 7,000 reservists have been recalled to the colours for immediate exercises lasting between 10 and 30 days.
They're told by the Polish authorities that the call-ups are routine: but the men say they havent been asked before and theyre well aware of the growing alarm in Warsaw at President Putins aggression.
This is sick! This is pathetic!
These lands belonged to Poland indeed, however Poland was a multi-ethnic country, not homogeneous as it is today. For hundreds of years, the Polish, Ukrainian and Ruthenian nations lived in the shared state but, over the several past decades, their own national identities have gradually evolved.
So, the natural consequence of the choice is a territorial dispute since they lived together on the same land. So, if neglected, this inevitably turns into a serious conflict and even a civil war.
For instance, the city of Lvov (Ukr. Lviv) was purely Polish, where more than 90% was the Polish ethnicity. However, some 80% of the surrounding villages were Ukrainian.
So, all in all, any Russian attempts (proposals) to change territorial integrity of Poland and Ukraine is nothing but a sick provocation.
Asked for a comment to the Russian proposal, the Polish foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, said (my thoughts exactly), "It gives me amusement. That's all."
This is the problem with letting none citizens vote.
