Fracking City has Lowest Unemployment Rate, Solar City has Highest Unemployment

Forget building this city on Rock and Roll and try Fracking instead. Just don’t try building it on solar power, wind power or pixie dust.

The U.S. metro area with the lowest unemployment rate is a shale oil boomtown. The one with the highest unemployment rate houses the world’s largest solar plant.

According to data released on Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Midland, Texas, has a 2.9 percent unemployment rate, the lowest in the country. Midland sits above the Permian Basin Shale, a massive formation that constitutes a large chunk of Texas’ booming shale oil industry.

The West Texas town is also one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country, which many attribute to its booming oil-fueled economy.

In contrast to the successes of those oil and gas boomtowns, Yuma, Ariz., is facing the highest unemployment rate of any U.S. metro area at a whopping 26.1 percent.

Yuma is the site of the Agua Caliente solar plant—the largest photovoltaic solar generation facility in the world.

Agua Caliente received a $967 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy (DOE) in 2011. According to DOE, federal financing helped create 10 permanent jobs

1 billion dollars to 10 jobs. That’s only 100 million dollars a job. At that rate it will only take all the money in the world to create enough Green Jobs to end unemployment.

If only we had an industry that created revenues and jobs.

Yes, but who has cleaner air and water? :)

The air in Midland is the same as it ever has been, which is clean, albeit dusty.

Our water is the same as it ever has been, which is clean, but darn hard on pipes.

I’m all for using fossil fuels, and conservation, as I am a conservative, and as such, use resources with a respect for our environment, and I do not treat it as a religion, but, what’s the word on fracking?

Is it so safe?

The reason NY hasn't taken it up is because they haven't figured out how many thousands of people they should hire to oversee this very old technology.

And of course, there's the taxes and the fines and how to get Fed funding.

I Love NY.....NOT!!

I would expect that if you are not in Midland for a job, or own a ranch there isn’t a lot of reason to be there which would support a low unemployment rate.Would also have to wonder if proximity to Indian reservation nera Yuma would drive up it’s unemployment rate.

“Our water is the same as it ever has been, which is clean, but darn hard on pipes.”

Corrosive or just mineral buildup?

Here is the anlogy I use for understanding fracking:

Has anyone suffered broken bones or death ^directly attributable^ to a med-center injection for flu inoculation? This is near the same scale of activity.

"Is it so safe?"

The same people who have brought you GoreBull warming have also produced a number of pseudo horror films on fracking (along the lines of "China Syndrome") to scare the gullible who won't inform themselves and wait on others to tell them what to think.

Fool me ounce, shame on you

Fool me twice, shame on me

“Is it so safe?”

Yes.

There is 3 if not 4 layers of steel (pipe) between the fracking fluid and the fresh water.

‘Is it so safe?’

The truth is, that millions have died, our environment has been scorched for generations to come and that the coming alien invasion to cleanse this planet of all galaxy harming oil lovers, is awaiting permission from the supreme Earthen leader, Vladimir Putin, before commencing.

Solar is obviously underfunded and if you don’t agree you must be racist, er, hate the earth or something.

Would also have to wonder if proximity to Indian reservation nera Yuma would drive up it’s unemployment rate.

More likely, its proximity to a wide open border with Mexico and generous federal subsidies which makes sitting on your ass and drawing a government check on this side of the border more attractive than working on the other side.

That's kind of moot if you're flat broke, living under a bridge in a refrigerator box, and starving to death. :-)

Fracking works, is safe, and is an economic powerhouse. Solar is flashy but an economic non starter till more advances occur in solar technology even then there is the problem of surface area requirements for solar and wind that will not be easily solved.

It’s the same kind of condescending bull we get from mds who have pompously pushed our medical care out if our hands into the hands of theirs and eventually the go we ment.

I have a science degree and many years of application of work Jim science

But people are so dumbed down there is no conversing

Do you know that since the Japanese nuke plant went bad both Germany and France have given up on nuke plants. It’s because they’re very safe, until they’re not
