WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is sending military aircraft and more special operations forces to Uganda to assist in the search for fugitive African warlord Joseph Kony.

A senior U.S. military official confirmed Monday that the U.S. is sending at least four CV-22 Osprey aircraft about about 150 more Air Force special operations members and airmen to assist local forces in their long-running battle against Kony's Lord's Resistance Army, or LRA. The official confirmed the plans, first reported by The Washington Post, on condition of anonymity without authorization to discuss them on the record.

Executive Outcomes is a damn fine Africa based civilian based military contractor. They’re run by former South African special forces officers. They’ve had some astounding successes in Africa that make this Kony crap look like childs play.

I’d much rather pay for them to do the job than waste one American life in that hole.

Southern Sudan has a very tropical climate with lots of rain and humidity. Not much is worse then the jungle.

Word is Kony is not well. We will capture a half dead guy and claim some type of victory even though most never heard of the guy. Hopefully we won’t lose any troops.

Joseph Kony is an animal but he’s not our problem.

A FB post from one of my friends in Uganda:

UPDF’s Paddy Ankunda is on TV praising Obama’s decision to deploy 150 American commandos and fighter jets in Uganda to help capture Kony, a man who can no-longer stage any fights against Uganda. These Commandos are coming at a time when Obama is beefing with M7n over the anti-gay law, it’s quite possible that these commandos could be on a different mission altogether because technically, America has no mandate to fight Kony but it’s the only way to deploy their military inside Uganda...get closer to M7n, study the situation, collect intelligence and possibly help launch a coup-de-tat against him...I hope am wrong.

I guess that is a personal choice. Having spent a good bit of time playing games with the NVA in the paddies, mountains & jungles of Vietnam, I would choose that over Falujah or Kandahar Province.

Anyway, that part of South Sudan gets between 30 and 40 inches of rainfall, except for the far SW corner that can get up to 60 inches.

I know northern Uganda. It is savannah. The few mountains have some forest.

I spent a while flying a helicopter in southern Sudan, from the White Nile west to the CAR border and from Khartoum south to Adok, about 200 miles north of Juba. Except for the papyrus swamps either side of the White Nile, it is all savannah with clumps of bush. Greener and flatter than Northern Uganda, but not jungle.

Google Earth shows the area south of there to the Uganda border as being very similar.

I yield the floor to you for the last word.

(otherwise, I could be accused of starting a p*****g contest)

:-)

What is there that you are so anxious to sacrifice Americans for?

Is there a good place to have a war?

Granada (1983) wasn't so bad.

Children, some as young as 10 years old, thousands of children, that Kony has murdered, raped, mutilated and turned into murderers of their fellow captives.

BTW, I am not "anxious to sacrifice Americans".

Back when I was a Marine in combat, if I had to die, I would have preferred it being while trying to save kids rather than while playing "footsie" with NVA or VC or the later Islamic whackos while one hand is tied behind my back, knowing that the American press & politicians would soon tire of the whole mess and walk away with the job unfinished.

Going after Kony has a specific, measurable and attainable objective.

Yeah I spent time in uniform as well and spent my time doing stuff.

Going after Kony is a quagmire. There’s always another ‘kony’ behind this one in that region.
