RUSH: Well, folks, the left's honeymoon with Pope Francis may be coming to an end. Remember the pope went out there and released an economic encyclical or document in which I analyzed it as being almost Marxist. And this caused just... There were eruptions in voluminous amounts. In fact, there were volcanic eruptions in the media. And all of a sudden the left, which hates the Catholic Church, fell in love with the pope!

Remember that? Oh, if I come out criticize him, the pope's gotta be a good guy. So they fell in love with pope. "The pope is a great guy!" But now the Vatican's chief justice feels that President Obama's policies have been hostile toward Christians. "Vatican Chief Justice: Obama's Policies 'Have Become Progressively More Hostile Toward Christian Civilization' -- The Vatican's chief justice feels that President Barack Obama's policies have been hostile toward Christians."

Now, this is the Vatican. This is an official. It doesn’t have to be coming from the pope in order for it to be official. "In an interview with Polonia Christiana magazine -- and transcribed by Life Site News -- Cardinal Raymond Burke said that Obama 'promotes anti-life and anti-family policies.'" So the Vatican is out defending Christianity, defending itself, and this is gonna cause a fissure between the media, which was falling in love with the pope.

They weren't falling in love with the Catholic Church, don't misunderstand. They were falling in love with the pope. They thought, they really thought... Here, again, is another classic illustration of total ignorance. They really think that they can make the Catholic Church moderate its tone. They think they can bring the Catholic Church into what they call the Twenty-First Century. They think that this pope might actually legalize gay marriage, sanction it in the church.

They think this pope might actually allow women to be priests. They think this pope might actually lighten up on its pro-life position. They really believe that. They really think the Catholic Church is just another political organization. If they exert enough pressure, and if they get the right pope in there, they can work on him to bring the church forward into the Twenty-First Century. And this from the Vatican chief justice is just a major, major slapdown.

The left is not going to be happy about this.

What is it with popes? Always a big fuss made over the popes!

Well anyway, I once entered the find the popes in the pizza contest that was on TV way back when I was just a teenager. I didn't win any of the prizes but I did get honorable mention for having participated.

True is true.

Homosexuality is unGodly.
Divorce is unGodly.
Abortion is unGodly.
lying is unGodly.
Stealing is unGodly.
Murder is unGodly.

Progressives want rules that don’t apply to them and standards that are subjective not objective.

God didn’t make the world that way and they chafe at the thought that they could be judged and are vicious to anyone that says there is a right and a wrong different from their perceived right and wrong.

They are wrong.

IMHO, Francis’ economic redistribution sentimentality runs counter to the Tenth Commandment which is not to covet. Covetousness cannot be avoided in socialism.

This naturally leads to an overall increase in bearing false witness, which violates the Ninth Commandment, which just as naturally derives from violation of the Eighth Commandment and its prohibition of direct theft.

Perhaps the Pope needs tend to the plank in his own eye, first.

It has been unclear to me, an evangelical. It could be a 2nd commandment based exhortation to charity. That is classic doctrine in any of the three major branches of Christendom.

Catholics often do tend to go several times around Robin Hood’s barn to say what, e.g., a Baptist might say with a few bible quotes.

What indeed is it about Popes?

If you realized what it is, you would become Catholic.

> It could be a 2nd commandment based exhortation to charity.

I’ve conversed with elements of the evangelical left who claim their support for big government welfare programs is based on the Christian call to charity.

I pointed out to them that charity cannot be performed under threat of force, else it is not charity.

All government programs are administered by money taken by threat of force.

The Apostle Paul says in 2nd Corinthians 9:7, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

That does not support the socialist/communist take-by-force paradigm.

I’d want to put my finger on any specific exhortation for governments to be “big government” before wagging that finger at the pope. I haven’t seen anything unambiguous to that effect. If it is to be kept in a Christian context, one could envision things like making it easier for charities to operate. Don’t tie them up in red tape, etc.
