“Who’s going to complain about a 4 hour erection? “

There is a wife joke here. I am just not going to go there for my own safety.

Personally, if there was a drug that enabled women to have sex more often (as Viagra does for men), I’d not only mandate that insurance cover it, but probably demand that Uncle Sam provide free prescriptions at every 7-11.

Well, not free, but still pretty cheap. :-)

Fair enough.

They key with them being “morning after” is there is a reasonable, statistical assumption that if used properly, they are contraceptive and not abortive.

My wife works at a catholic health system. She has to know this stuff up and down as she often is involved in the ethics discussions dealing with Romneycare here in MA. If it’s good enough for the “Sisters” in charge....

Have a Viagra erection that last longer than four hours? Don’t call your doctor, just look at a picture of Barbara Boxer!

Problem solved.

I guess it depends on your idea of reasonable. I don’t know the exact statistics, but the literature states that the drugs ‘also’ prevent implantation, so if there is a failure to prevent fertilization they are likely to prevent implantation. Unlike OCPs where if they don’t prevent ovulation it is much less likely implantation will fail. (I have met quite a few “pill babies :) ).

This is not to say that you are not correct in their primary effect being contraceptive, just that many women don’t realize that abortion is a possibility. Is it 50%, 30% 10%? I don’t know for sure, but anyone taking them should be informed, and that risk was too high for me to prescribe them when prescriptions were necessary, although I would prescribe OCPs.

There has been a well-documented study by a university that gave women free birth control for several years. Abortions went down by 50 percent, Chris.

Another fake study reference.
