Little Girl Taken Out Of Christian School After Told She's Too Much Like A Boy

Timberlake, VA - Sports, sneakers, and short hair; it's what makes eight year old Sunnie Kahle unique. It's also what had her removed from Timberlake Christian School. Her grandparents pulled the plug on her time there after they said she was no longer welcome.

The family received a letter telling them that if their eight year old granddaughter didn't follow the school's "biblical standards," that she'd be refused enrollment next year. She's out and in public school now.

Sunnie Kahle has short hair and a huge heart, and as far as her grandparents are concerned, she is a completely normal little girl.

"She cries every morning to get on the bus, she cries when she comes home because she wants to go back to Timberlake Christian with her friends," said Doris Thompson.

Well...it's private school. They can kick her out. But there are more of the same that would welcome her.

She wasn't expelled, she was withdrawn by the family. The school threatened to refuse enrolement for the following year.

I’ll bet there is more to this story than a haircut.

The government school will have her using the boys’ room within a month.

administrators can refuse enrollment for condoning sexual immorality, practicing a homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity.

Absolutely NONE of which apply to this little 8-year old kid.

You know darned good and well parents and guardians were told upfront what the expectations were for dress and conduct. Why do people think they’re “special” and they don’t have to abide by them? If you can’t respect the school’s rules, then don’t send your kid there.

I wasn’t aware that the bible had dress codes for 8 year old children.

Sure is. There’s a reason why the comments are from the ‘grandparents’.

I’m guessing something along the lines of “Heather Has Two Mommies (or Daddies)....

More here than meets the eye.

Yeah, I’m trying not to sneer that these admin people went their first for a rationale with an eight year old. I smell inept pharisees. Looks like a choppy history and some attendant emotional issues for this little girl. Serious Christians would try to help her. I hope she and her family find some.

Uniforms would be a good idea.

They maybe upset that she doesn't like pink, isn't afraid of frogs, likes to play basketball, hates to cook and has short hair. All the indications of a homosexual lesbian./s

The comments at that site are troubling. There is a lot of hate for Christianity out there.

Whether or not the school was right to warn the parents—or grandparents—I have absolutely no sympathy for parents who run whining to the press about the standards of the Christian school they wanted to send their daughter to.

Either go along with the rules, or leave.

The press, of course, is eager to take any opportunity to bash Christian values.

“You’re probably aware that Timberlake Christian School is a religious, Bible believing institution providing education in a distinctly Christian environment,” read Doris from a part of the letter.

The letter goes on to say that students have been confused about whether Sunnie is a boy or girl and specifies that administrators can refuse enrollment for condoning sexual immorality, practicing a homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity.

The letter goes on to reference specific Bible verses that affirm these beliefs.

The letter reads in part, “We believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education.”

It seems wrong. But,,, I must admit, she does look like a boy. My Mom was a “tomboy” all her life!

The school is wrong. That is fundamentalism, and it’s wrong.

"The comments at that site are troubling. There is a lot of hate for Christianity out there."

That site is my local news station. I got kicked off repeatedly for posting negative comments about Terry McAuliffe, including calling him corrupt. The city is the home of Jerry Falwell's Liberty University, and it's solidly red...for now.

Incidentally, it isn't "Timberlake", it's Lynchburg. Timberlake is the name of the school and the road it sits on. I would think WSET would catch such a moronic mistake. Well, no...I wouldn't.

Well...I can understand if she was dressing like a little slut or sporting tattoos, but wearing pants and having short hair is something that this school doesn’t like. She’ll have to go to another private school or enroll in public school. In defense of the school, they have rules and either the grandparents weren’t following them or the girl wasn’t. If they are that hard up on short hair and masculine behavior for little girls, it would be better for her and grandparents to seek another school.
