Crimea seizure act of Russian 'weakness': Obama
Chicago Tribune ^ | March 25, 2014

Posted on 03/25/2014 12:26:46 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Russia and the West drew a tentative line under the Ukraine crisis on Tuesday after U.S. President Barack Obama and his allies agreed to hold off on more damaging economic sanctions unless Moscow goes beyond the seizure of Crimea.

Describing Russia as a "regional power" and not the biggest national security threat to the United States, Obama said Russian forces would not be removed militarily from Crimea, but the annexation of the Black Sea region was not a "done deal" because the international community would not recognise it.

~~~~snip~~~~
"Russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors, not out of strength but out of weakness," Obama said. "We (the United States) have considerable influence on our neighbours. We generally don't need to invade them in order to have a strong cooperative relationship with them."
~~~~Obama 'splains that taking Crimea was not over his red line, but another step will be~~~~

Asked what was to stop a further Russian "land grab", the U.S. president drew a distinction between an attack on members of NATO, covered by its Article V mutual defence clause, and on non-members where the West could apply international pressure, shine a spotlight on those states and provide economic support.

~~~~all's well that ends well~~~~
The rouble firmed and Russian assets climbed on Tuesday after Obama and fellow G7 leaders held back from new sanctions and investors took the view that the crisis had been contained for now.
Wow. I don’t know what is more astounding.
A president who could actually say this.
Or people who will actually believe it. You know at least 23% of the adult population will buy it. And just how many millions of people is that?
Just wow.
If he weren’t occupying our Casablanca statements like this would be quite funny, even entertaining.
If I were Putin, I would be doing kicks and high fives for Obama. He is helping me achieve my goals.
How does a tough guy tell a weak turd “thanks” in Russian?
Obama needs to reread his little read Mao book that “Power comes from the barrel of a gun.”
Russia is a great power - and of course the West is not going to really punish it because it can’t and it might need the Russians again someday.
And since Russia has recovered Crimea, it could care less about what Obama thinks.
It sounded as if he was almost daring Putin. Obama is dangerously immature in this area.
Bingo. I saw this to my wife everyday now. This clown who has proved he is not the equal of one of Rumfeld’s “trained apes” could easily write a check with his mouth that our arses cannot cover.
To the contrary, I don't think he'd go to war over anything short of a direct attack on the "lower 48", and I'm not even sure about that considering that "Azltan" is comparable to Crimea in this context.
One morning we woke up and saw a Russian flag flying over the Crimean parliament, put there by anonymous militia. Ukraine did little more than stammer and the Obama declared "sanctions" on a few individuals (several of which were bafflingly unaffected by).
One morning we may very well wake up and see a Mexican flag flying over the California capitol, put there by anonymous militia. The Obama would do little more than stammer and declare "sanctions" on a few individuals ... if not just wish the new owners good luck.
There needs to be a political movement that recognizes and proclaims liberals are nuts in general.
The world to liberals bears no semblance to reality, and this is how they get people killed.
The successful invasion of Crimea is a “weakness” because liberals reject the idea of successful invasions in the modern world. Our allies are all troublemakers, and our enemies are all justified. The list of dangerous liberal nuttiness goes on and on.
Great powers don’t invade their neighbors with a pansy army wearing no insignia and masks. That is a african tin pot dictator move.
Looks like the media is running with the laughable “Putin is weak” talking point.
That's the saddest part.
One would hope that at some point, even the MSM would reach a point where even they begin to get worried about what Obama is doing to the country and the world.
We are either not yet at that point, or the MSM is willing to go all the way where Obama is going.
If Russia is using its military because it is so terribly weak, maybe “we” should send them a big shipment of our most advanced American weapons?
(you know, like how “we” are doing for IslamoNazis and anti-American Muslim terrorists elsewhere?)
