The Italian mobs annual budget is bigger than that of the EU, with most of the money spent outside Italy, the countrys foreign ministry says.
Organised crime has an annual budget of more than 200 billion, said Giovanni Brauzzi, security policy director at the Italian ministry of foreign affairs, on Tuesday (25 March).
They invest only 10 percent of this budget in Italy; the rest they invest in countries in Europe and elsewhere. They have good friends everywhere, he added.
The EUs annual budget for 2014 in comparison is around 140 billion.

Interesting to know where to draw the lines between the Italian Mafia and, let’s say, the Chicago Mafia or the Las Vegas Mafia.
There are some interconnections, but not necessarily total control by one boss.
That’s a lot of cannoli.
Peanuts compared to the criminal mob in Washington.
Under Obama the mafya is the tax payer.
Wow — is any of that money budgeted to Chicago and Washington???
This is a guess as to how much money the mob controls. Remember, prosecuters/government have an interest in inflating the mobs threat.
Michael, we’re bigger than US steel.
Is this true? How do they know? Does the Mafia report their income?
