National Review Online ^ | March 25, 2014 | Victor Davis Hanson

China and Russia are no more impressed with empty bluster today than Japan was in 1941.

The Roosevelt administration once talked loudly of pivoting to Asia to thwart a rising Japan. As a token of its seriousness, in May 1940 it moved the home port of the Seventh Fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harbor — but without beefing up the fleet’s strength...

Being weak is sometimes dangerous. Being loud, self-righteous, and weak is always very dangerous indeed.

The Forties called. Late-Thirties troop levels didn’t even work back then.

Amusing to observe Obama responding to Putin. Too bad grandiose rhetoric is not a good substitute for effective leadership or sound policies.

But think of the size of the mobilization that can be called up in 2017 by Madame President Clinton. With the lessons learned at Whitewater and Benghazi, Herself, the Cold & Joyless, will be more than prepared to undertake the burdens of bringing a crushing blow against - what?

That is, if Herself does not succumb to senility first.

As a token of its seriousness, in May 1940 it moved the home port of the Seventh Fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harbor ...

Not sure it was actually called that back then, but it probably doesn't matter ...

Is that what her ailment is rumored to be? I seem to have heard someplace that her 2016 chance might be hindered by whatever she is ailing from.

“No more Task Force Smiths!”

Why would any nation want to spend billions of dollars for nuclear weapons and a big navy. For a few million, they buy the Democrat party and the American news people.

Clinton? Who needs Clinton as President when you have a pen, a phone and a convenient, pre-established national crisis in the form of a full scale global war to bypass the 22nd Amendment, nationalize and ration everything, and institute a conscript military to deploy overseas as fodder while your DHS Civil “Defense” Force conducts war against domestic nativist terrorists?

Hillary is too sick to be President—she may not be alive in 2017! I bet Bill will go to his reward soon as well. Weakness always invites war.

Yet Obama entered office declaring that it was the Bush administration’s reaction to the Georgia aggression, and not the Russian invasion itself, that had cooled U.S.–Russian relations.

And a select number of them post on FR.

Too bad grandiose rhetoric is not a good substitute for effective leadership or sound policies.

Its not grandiose rhetoric, and it is effective

It is a dismissive sneer, designed to give the Palace Guard Media an opportunity to present BO as a cool customer with a cutting wit, during the next 1-3 twenty-four hour news cycles. And it is very effective at deluding those who get their news from the Palace Guard Media.

Unfortunately for the United States, BO's accomplishments on the world stage, as portrayed by the Palace Guard Media, bear the same relationship to real life international affairs as the accomplishments at the plate of a T-Ball player bears to Major League Baseball.

CINCPAC Admiral Richardson strongly objected to moving the Battle Fleet to the forward operating base at Pearl Harbor so our banana republic El Presidente for life FDR fired him and he was replaced by a more malleable Husband Kimmel.

Should also add that another objection was the maintenance and supply aspects since Hawaii was a bit farther away from the railroads and fuel pipelines.

One of the famous British WW1 admirals argued for establishing their major Far East base in Australia and not Singapore but was ignored.

Both will be in for a surprise when their master summons them to the afterlife, hope they like it hot. Better if they don’t.
