You said it. Most Indians have no problem with the name. Albeit a misnomer, it’s historical and not derogatory.

Just wonder how much longer until they start suggesting changing the name “Washington”, after all, he’s just another dead white guy.

In this instance I was referring to the name Indians versus the unnecessary Native Americans.

Sitting Bull wouldn’t recognize these clowns if he was brought back to life. Give it a few more generations the only tribe that will exist beyond what the government fictions will be what is called the “Wannabee” tribe. They will be blended into the greater American dispora just like the leftists social engineers says is going to happen to whites.

I hear ya.
Likely true.
The important point is that Snyder didn't cave to the demand.

The attack on traditional racial names & nicknames does not arise with the racial groups that the "politically correct" pretend to be protecting. These attacks originate with Leftist oriented White pseudo-intellectual neurotics, desperate to prove the fantasy of human "oneness," based upon the totally false premises of human interchangeability & human plasticity. (All social engineering supporters assume that the human personality is more plastic than it really is--hence the notion that Government can reengineer people, by forcefully remaking their social environment. This is the common premise of Communists, Nazis, Social Democrats & America's faux "Liberals.")

We make a mistake by continuing to let intolerant crackpots, seeking to remake other people's societies via monolithic political power plays, pose as "liberal." True liberals are much closer to Conservatives in this fight, than to the neurotic crack-pots.

Of course, ever ready to exploit the insanity, are the demagogues & scoundrels, who feast on stirring up hate in the names of "brotherhood," "fairness," "equality" and "social justice."

“Some of the reservations make the slums look like the ritz-carlton.”

When I lived in Phoenix my business partner and I had a houseboat on Lake Powell at Page, AZ. One has to drive through the reservation to get to Page. You’re absolutely correct. Saw people living in mud huts with multiple TV aerials and Cadillac’s sitting in front.

Some of the ones in eastern AZ and western NM are pitiful. Even the “artists” haven around Taos are pretty lame. Lots of them with no elec or running water. Lots of soused Indians around Gallup NM. I guess that’s what happens when the big cheese in DC promises to take care of you and you become dependent on the “system”. Not that there aren’t some well meaning folks in BIA.

Fl State does not buy off the Indians. The Seminole (like most Indians) are proud to be associated with the university. It is not all about money.

If we want to be technically correct, they should be referred to as “indigenous people” since there is probably no common name for this continent in all the languages spoken prior to colonization.

Then again there were no people who sprang into being on this continent, so maybe we should call them “prehistoric immigrants.”

> Gambling has enriched the Indian reservations beyond anything imaginable. Driving down I 65 in alabama this ten story hotel and casino rises out of nowhere. Today the Indian reservations are raking in the dough.

Correction: the white men who set up the corporations in the name of an Indian casino and only gives them a percentage is raking in the dough...

As a Gator, all I can say is anyone saying that the Seminoles should change their name can pound sand.

Well I have another version that replaces the “i” with an “e”, and adds an “h” after the “n”.

If I understand your purely sophistic atomic-level hair-splitting correctly, my analogy is not semantically perfect because Russia would need to start calling the U.S.A. something like Westia before taking it over, and then call all of us Native Westians.

Don’t bother me again with such nonsense.

What Snyder should say is that he will keep the Redskin name until the Redskins win the Superbowl. At that point he will look for a more appropriate name for a Superbowl Champion.
