The Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, promising a new right to health, policies to lift 800 million people into the middle class and GDP growth rate of more than eight per cent in the next three years. The manifesto, which the Congress claims was put together after more than 30 public consultations, mainly by party vice-president Rahul Gandhi, seeks to enhance the party’s approach of rights-based legislations by including six more rights. It also promises an agenda to create 100 million more jobs for the youth. The manifesto said that the party will put in place charter of minimum “social-economic rights”, including “right to health, right to pension, right to housing, right to social security, right to dignity and humane working conditions, and right to entrepreneurship.”

India could actually do this, and it is not very hard at all.

Right now, India has a terribly frustrated educated class, because even with advanced degrees, starting businesses or developing them is like swimming through tar, because of their vast and inefficient, almost glacial bureaucracy.

So for them to have an explosion in prosperity, they need for their government to get the hell out of the way of the public. Slash their bureaucracy to a shadow of its former self, and their economy will go gangbusters.

Wages will jump, businesses will compete, goods and services will flow, the value of their currency will jump, and prosperity will descend on their nation like rain during the monsoon.
