The 40’s.. THE EYES.. If an adult looked at you, you froze..

The 50’s.. THE SILENT TREATMENT.. If they stopped talking, you stopped asking, or else..

The 60’s.. THE COMMAND.. Sit down and Shut up, and that was the last straw..

The 70’s.. THE DISCUSSION.. Let’s talk about this. The compromise..

The 80’s.. THE PAY-OFF.. If you stop, I’ll buy you..

The 90’s.. THE THREATS.. You told the school councilor WHAT?

2000’s.. ..  THE END.. You could do time Behind Bars for placing your kid in TIME OUT! YIKES

I learned to float in mid air at the end of my Dad’s left arm, running from the right one that had the belt in it. 50’s!

Stardate: Late ‘60’s...

Well, I was just gonna post I screwed up, I got My A$$ Whipped.

The only option was: Go get Me a belt.

The problem: Dad had about 40 belts- wide, thin, in between.

The answer: No matter what “I” picked He always went back and picked a different one.

Result: I NEVER did the SAME screw up twice.

I learned real quick not to get a branch off of the apple trees...like a whip they were. Peach branches would break pretty easy...which meant they were quickly put on the "no go" list by Pop.

The liberals have made child rearing more difficult. In some places, I understand you can be brought up on legal charges of assault if you physically discipline your children such as by spanking.

Teachers and others in schools are not allowed to physically touch a student. And the out of control kids know it. Arguably we have worse discipline problems in schools today, because we banned corporal punishment.

No, we have worse discipline problems because parents have fallen down in their duty of teaching children the proper behavior for a civilized society.

Parenting is hard... especially if your kid is moody.

and why have so many parents today failed in their job in disciplining their children? Is part of it that today’s parents were brought up with lax standards themselves, in the 70s and 80s? So that each generation coming of age since the 60s is more and more screwed up????

Yes, I think that is correct. Part of the problem, IMO, is that mothers decided that it was better to enter the work force and pay strangers to care for their children.

Anyone can replace you at your paid job, but nobody can replace you in your child’s life. Children need a parent’s supervision, nurturing, and teaching.
