McKamey had played high school football here in Knoxville, coached by his father.

The Navy coach was quoted as saying "As our Navy football family mourns the loss of one of our brothers, we also celebrate and honor his life. He loved his family, his friends and his teammates. The Brotherhood loves you! Keep the ball `high and tight' in Heaven."

Prayers up for the family. RIP, young man.

It will be interesting to see what caused this.

According to the article he had what sounds like he previously had a closed head injury but was cleared to play again.

He had swelling of the brain, which can be caused by any number of conditions.

Sometimes knowing why can help the family come to closure and we can certainly learn from it to help prevent a similar tragedy with others.

Prayers up to the family.

Sometimes knowing why can help the family come to closure...”

Having lost a child, for me knowing why did not and does not help and it’s been twelve years. There is a natural order to life and parents are supposed to die before their children but only when the parents have lived a long and full life. Family members learn to cope with the loss because it is the only way they can get through life.

Hopefully the family members know Christ and can share their grief with Him.

So sorry to hear about your loss.

Being in health care I have seen plenty of families that the “what happened” helped them get moving in that direction. That’s why I said sometimes.

So sad. Prayers up for his soul and for his family.

May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. And may Perpetual Light shine upon them.

I admit that I did not go to the full article. Was there mention of hazing in that piece?

I played full contact football from grade 5 until senior year at a Catholic school in northern Wisconsin. It is a horribly brutal sport and I really hate to see stories like this, such a waste of life over a stupid silly game really.

I too lost a 28 year old son almost four years ago. Never a day goes by that I don’t see something or hear something or even smell something that reminds me of him. Some days are worse than others but they are never far from your thought.
May God bless and keep!
