The City of Little Rock is encouraging residents and businesses to join millions world-wide to raise awareness about climate change by switching off non-essential lighting for Earth Hour – Saturday March 29, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. local time.

Little Rock is one of more than 7,000 cities and towns around the world expected to take part in the world's largest voluntary environmental action.

"As good stewards of the environment, we encourage Little Rock residents, businesses and organizations to participate in Earth Hour this Saturday by turning off all non-essential lights," said Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola.

"The City has made significant efforts to reduce energy usage and save money through innovative actions such as retrofitting most City buildings with motion-activated light switches. With these switches in place, the City of Little Rock will be participating in Earth Hour in a substantial way."

You can change the weather by turning off lights. Period.

I am not opposed to efforts to reduce energy usage, a “turn off your un-needed lights and stuff” voluntary effort sounds potentially reasonable.

But when they suggest that turning off the lights is something that needs to be done for climate change, I would be the first one with every light in the house on for the little event.

I always celebrate by turning on every single light wherever I am — even the interior bathrooms.

Then I turn the heat/AC (depending on where) and open all the windows and doors.

Why choose? Turn them both on and let them fight for who is stronger during Earth hour.

Do they have someone to prod the city employees to keep them moving so the light doesn't go out?

Perfect. I’m going to burn massive amounts of brush all day Saturday. I should have an enormous carbon footprint. Was going to do it anyway as I didn’t realize that silly Earth hour was happening again, but at 8:30 I’ll smile about my carbon offset.

Oh yeah - the annual turn all your lights on day. The more people turn their lights ON, the more the libtards day is ruined. Their energy saving crap is all in vein.

Yeah. I participate. I always turn my lights ON all day to help the cause. Why not?

Same here. Might just fire up the 34 hp standby generator to emphasize the point.

OK...

This will be the only time I will capitulate to my wife’s preference of having every light in the house on.

In hotels it usually a slide or a toggle.

I always feel a little guilty since it isn’t my $ I am burning.

But the deep satisfaction of conceptually flipping off enviroweenies makes up for it...
