Russian President Vladimir Putin's approval rating has reached 80 percent, with a majority of Russians saying the country is heading in the right direction, an independent pollster said Wednesday.
A poll by the Levada Center said public support for the Russian leader rose by 8 percent since Putin delivered an address to parliament on Crimea before the predominantly Russian-speaking region rejoined Russia last week.
Levada said Putin's approval rating peaked at 85 percent in spring 2008, when Dmitry Medvedev, now prime minister, succeeded him as president.
Another poll by Levada last week said a majority of Russians believe their country is a great power and an important player in the international arena.
Some 63 percent of respondents said modern Russia has regained the status of a superpower, the highest level in the history of the poll, conducted by the Levada Center since the 2000s.
Putin was named International Person of the Year by Britain's The Times newspaper in December, for succeeding in his ambition of reestablishing Moscow as a critical player in solving international problems.
According to the poll released Wednesday, only 18 percent of respondents did not approve of Putin's performance as president.
The survey was conducted March 21-24 among 1,600 respondents across 130 cities in Russia. The statistical margin of error was 3.4 percent.
Given the beatdown Russia has taken since the 90's, I find it quite believable that Russia flexing its muscles on the world stage would be popular back home.
same thing happened to Hitler
And Obama’s disapproval sinks to 59%.
I wonder how close to 80% approval rating Putin would be in our country?
See previous thread: Obama DISapproval hits 59%
Well, well, well, O’bummer’s approval rating is just 1/2 of that. Obummer loses again.
“same thing happened to Hitler”
Yes, it did.
And it encouraged him to push the weak leaders of the world even more.
Just like now.
And that's just here in America! At least that's what I believe it would be if the question asked was "Who would you prefer for a leader, Putin or Obama?" :^)
What approval do you give him? 110%?
Yes, of course. Add to that the fact that nearly all average Russians consider Crimea to be part of Russia for 300+ years (like it or not, dear readers), and stories from its history (such as battling the Turks, British, French) are some of the most well-known in Russian literature. Not very different from USA's "wild-west" lore.
Putin’s flat rejection of the homosexual agenda has more than a little to do with his popularity, of course the MSM will never whisper a word about that.
At least Putin loves his country and wants to restore its former power and respect. Gotta give him credit for that.
Our president is doing just the opposite.
They need to include Kerry in their signs...
They should deny Kerry’s sailboat any access to their ports on the Black Sea. lol
All people admire real heroes, nothing strange here.
Putin...the conservative alternative for dupes who know nothing about conservatism.
I’m not surprised at all and guess what?
Putin isn’t either.
Yes, and they should have that picture of Kerry windsurfing - the picture that made Obama on his bike look 'manly'... the yellow shorts ones.. That Kerry picture should be put on their 'no sailing on the Black Sea' posters. LOL
Easy to admire a leader that works on behalf of his country’s interests and power. One that sees the West decaying and dying, in a cesspool of depravity and homosex, and enacts measures that ensure his country’s long-term survival. No surprise at all.
Congratulations comrade, trclaf, on your appointment as First Sergeant in the FreeRepublic Platoon of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade! Your duties will include licking comrade Putin's boots, so you will need to move you mouth about 3 feet south of where it is at the moment.
They should get a room.
By the way, when Reagan, Thatcher, Poland's Solidarity, and the Pope were fighting Putin's communist bosses, Putin was serving in the KGB. When the Berlin Wall fell, Putin had 14 years of service with the KGB. His dad too worked in the Soviet's secret police. He's a swell guy, though. So what if he's personally immoral and corrupt, right? Let's praise him for his cruelty to Ukraine where he can prove he's a tough guy.
Who said I was a supporter of Putin? I just give him a tip-of-the-hat, as a leader who both lives in the world of political and historical reality, and works to ensure his country’s strength and survival.
Something we don’t have in America, which is decaying economically, militarily, culturally, and morally. Descending into a sewer of dope, depravity and homosex. And ultimately may no longer be an entity worth preserving or fighting for, as it continues down its path of embracing evil.
We can understand Putin’s motives—Obama is an enigma. He seems to want America to be humbled and forced to become weak and helpless (cutting military etc..._) Why? This clear difference is why some praise an autocrat like Putin. It is no wonder that Russians like Putin—some still like Stalin after all.
>> Hitler never stole as much for his personal benefit
Does life and blood count?
The One may consider invading Nova Scotia to get his number up!
It counts as to the magnitude of his crimes, but it’s not a way to judge personal self enrichment.
