Sailors leaving Navy over stress on social issues, Top Gun instructor says
Washington Times ^ | 3/25/2014

A Navy F-18 fighter pilot and former Top Gun instructor is publicly warning admirals that retention is beginning to suffer from the military’s relentless social conditioning programs.

Cmdr. Guy Snodgrass, until recently a Pentagon speech writer for the chief of naval operations, Adm. Jonathan Greenert, said sailors are becoming fed-up with the constant emphasis on social issues — an apparent reference to gays in the military, women in combat and ending sexual harassment.

“Sailors continue to cite the over-focus on social issues by senior leadership, above and beyond discussions on war fighting — a fact that demoralizes junior and mid-grade officers alike,” Cmdr. Snodgrass wrote this month on the U.S. Naval Institute website, an independent forum for active and retired sailors and Marines.

It is a remarkably frank assessment from an upwardly mobile fighter pilot who is due to become the executive officer of a F-18 unit in Japan.

He says one troubling sign already has emerged: a drop in applications to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis last year.

“The U.S. Navy has a looming officer retention problem,” Cmdr. Snodgrass writes, adding there is an “erosion of trust in senior leadership.”

He says retention racked up its “worst year in history” for the special warfare community, including Navy SEALs, with a record number of lieutenants declining to stay.

I haven’t seen any homo related training yet.

Surprising.
It's just a matter of time.

Doubly bad for retention of pilots in the military is that the demand for air transport pilots is at record levels worldwide with tremendous numbers projected for the next 20 years.

What's Russia or China going to do with all of our 100% female and gay male military after they take custody of all of them after their surrender? Isn't that where this is going?

I blame the military top brass and SEALs for not remedying this problem 5 years ago.

Deja vu 1976-1980.

Yes, I saw it firsthand.

I’d be getting out, too, and heading for some commercial right seat.

Not as easy as you might think. Entry level pay is not very good, and major airlines won't be hiring in large numbers for a couple more years.

That’s all liberals care about. Plus marijuana, of course.

No wonder our welfare rate is so high and our workforce participation rate so low.

The military will become like the college campuses, the men will be driven out and quit showing up.

The females and the freaks will own it in time.

Much worse actually. Neither Ford nor Carter forced straight men to tolerate Fags living and working among them onboard ship. 1980 getting caught playing Rump Ranger in the rack or elsewhere would be an instantly taken off ship and discharged under less than honorable offense.

1980 the going retention bonus for a Snipe was $15K-$18K next rank and if possible some shore duty. Chiefs were begging short timers to re-up. By late 1982 under Reagan's watch {when I considered going back in} the retention issue had resolved itself along with the other issues the Ford/Carter era created.

Our military has been in an ongoing state of decline since the day GHW Bush took oath as POTUS. We need another Ronald Reagan to pull of military and this nation out of this mess. We're in a much deeper crisis both nationally and military wise than has been seen since WW2.

Will our military soon be 50% limp wristed noodle heads and Napolitano lookalikes?

I don't know... I race with a lot of airline captains - a lot are South West but other carriers as well - and they see not enough first officers coming through. Don't know how the regionals are doing... that's where a lot of the major carriers get their FOs from: right seat regional, left seat regional, right seat major, Captain.
Alternatively, Military, right seat major, Captain.

Jim, I served during the Nixon, Ford , Carter and Reagan years in the Army. The worst social experiment in the Military happened in the early ‘80’s when the Army started co-ed basic training, it was a farce, the women couldn’t keep up with their male counterparts in the physical strength area, so standards were lowered. And what do 18 year old boys and girls like to do after hours??? Pregnancy rates soared and morale plummeted. And here we are 30+ years later. Mission acomplished Indeed! Liberalism is antithetical to common sense.

Everything is proceeding according to plan.

Just like ACA is intended to blow up the health insurance industry to replace it with single payer, tossing out don't ask don't tell in favor of normalizing flagrant homosexuality & gender integration is intended to destroy the military to replace it with Obama's Civilian National Security Force.

I'm not even half kidding.

Marines and Army too .....

Let’s hope these good men and women decide to re-up
once this fool is out of office and all his lame policies have been tossed out and reversed .
That day cannot come a moment too soon .

They are full of shit when they say, “Our diversity is our strength.” Our strength is/was in our unity. But that was before “American” was a dirty word to the politically correct.

sir , no sir . Please take it from me ; a lot of good men and women are just bidding their time . The great majority see right thru all the BS and don’t agree with one bit of it . Yet they are loyal to their country .

The next conservative to run for that office needs to publicly state that IF elected he will make all corrupted things right with the military and veterans and will gladly receive any and all , whom with a sterling service record ,had opted to leave due to Obama’s incompetence as C&C . 1000’s would heed this call . They LOVE their Service , they are just sickened by whom holds the reins presently .
They be back in a flash , if offered a deal they could not refuse . They are the best of us , they deserve our support , even if right now they decide to leave en masse .
A smart candidate will see a way to make a great thing out of this . Trust me

"Mission accomplished."

It's been a much longer mission than many realize Jim. Leftists have openly despised the US military since the 60's, but the leftist project to destroy it began in earnest with Pat Schroeder and other congressional feminists with the so-called "Tailhook" scandal.

A yep, and that’s why WE SHOULD NEVER elect a liberal to be Commander in Chief, they’ll always do what they can to destroy the military.
