Vatican City (AFP) - Barack Obama will meet Pope Francis for the first time Thursday for talks on a shared agenda to fight inequality which the US President hopes will help boost support at home.

The talks between the first Latin-American pope and first African-American US president will focus on tackling the gap between the rich and the poor, but are likely to spill over into thornier issues such as abortion, homosexuals and contraception.

The meeting at the Vatican comes as a welcome rest-stop for Obama during a six-day European tour dominated by the crisis over Crimea, and the US leader will doubtless be hoping some of the pope's overwhelming popularity will rub off on him.

How about a boost over the papal balcony? Have the Swiss guard with shovels to scrape up the mess.

The ‘rockstar’ as we were told not so long ago. The champion of marxism has been reduced to hoping the head of Christendoms graces might benefit him......

Oh the irony..

The Pope is about to meet with a man that has absolutely no reservations about killing a seven month old fetus. He is is about to sit with a man that actually celebrates abortion. He is about to have a conversation with a man that encodes rules and regulations that attempt to force Catholic institutions to fund immoral things and in effect renounce their religious beliefs. The Pope has said he is loathe to make judgments. It is devoutly hoped that more will come of this meeting than a photo op.

That man also supported letting the born baby die of negligence if it survived the abortion procedure.

Even Sandra fluke and pelosi should recognize that as murder

Obama has no reservations about killing a 9-month fetus/baby either, why stop at 7 months? He supports partial birth murder.

The talks between the first Latin-American pope and first African-American US president will focus on tackling the gap between the rich and the poor,

In the US, that's known as the gap between those in government and those not in government.
