Posted on 03/26/2014 8:25:24 PM PDT by kristinn
UPDATE, 7PM: Now there is $5,000 more from 2012. Total now $31,000.
And now Reid is playing the aggrieved grandfather. Chutzpah:
My granddaughter has been the target of harassing phone calls, strangers tracking her down and knocking on her door and negative, unwanted attention on the internet. This has gone too far and it needs to stop now. I deeply regret any role I had in creating this situation but now, as a grandparent, I say enough is enough.
As I have already said, I am reimbursing my campaign for the amount spent on thank-you gifts produced by my granddaughter, a professional and talented artist who produced gifts for my staff and supporters that had a personal connection to my family and my hometown of Searchlight, Nevada. I believe my granddaughter is a very talented individual and I admire her work tremendously, but I've decided that it would be best to pay for her work out of my own pocket. My office is reviewing our records to ensure that we reimburse my campaign for the full amount.
"Landra and I are extremely proud of our granddaughter, we love her very much and we regret any unwanted attention that these stories have brought to her. At every step of this process, my actions and those of my campaign have been in full compliance with the law. At this point, I only wish that my granddaughter be spared from further attacks, harassing visits and phone calls, and other kinds of unwanted attention.
"Any role" in creating this situation? Any role? Entire role, senator.
I have heard from non-family members that Ryan Reid is a talented, sensitive artist. She did not deserve to have this spotlight shone on her. I have great sympathy for her. But heal thyself, grandpa. You brought us to...

Cause we can’t get through to hairy. That’s why his daughter is catching it. Not cool though.
it’s not ‘enough’ until he resigns, preferably this week. Misuse of campaign funds is misuse of campaign funds whether he wants to saddle his daughter with it or not
I would call Harry Reid Benedict Arnold, but I don’t want to demean Benedict. Kids always pay a price for crook parents.
harry, we always knew you wuz a crook.
The smell in the Capitol rotunda is not the tourists.
It’s dirty Harry Reid.
Translation " it really sucks when you get caught"!
If I understand this ... harry sends the money, out of his campaign stash, to his granddaughter?!?
“As I have already said, ...”
“Now, simmer down Granny.” Jed
Being a Mormon, how many wives, kids, and grandkids does good old hairy have?
Dingy goin’ down?
This MUST be the dirty work of The Koch Brothers!!!
“unwanted attention on the internet. This has gone too far and it needs to stop now”
yes harry, get those meanies on the internet to stop it.
Look like I’m wrong ... harry is giving the money to his campaign for campaign spending. Way to go harry. More legal ... illegal moves, though legal. These congresscritters are smart and dirty and act legally while being illegal. Wow, What a Country!
his grand-daughter’s company:
Thanks for the link; post; thread.
Harry POS Reid ALERT!
Socialism Is Legal Plunder - Bastiat
BIG GOVERNMENT IS CRONY SOCIALISM
Harry POS Reid ALERT!
Must have just got twangled up with all that Cowboy Poetry money.
yep. Who we gonna blame? Holder or the FBI?
‘Ho’ House Reid is as dirty as the Nevada days are long.
“yep. Who we gonna blame? Holder or the FBI?”
yep. All of the above and then some.
Victims of Lawful Plunder
Men naturally rebel against the injustice of which they are victims. Thus, when plunder is organized by law for the profit of those who make the law, all the plundered classes try somehow to enter by peaceful or revolutionary means into the making of laws. According to their degree of enlightenment, these plundered classes may propose one of two entirely different purposes when they attempt to attain political power: Either they may wish to stop lawful plunder, or they may wish to share in it.
Woe to the nation when this latter purpose prevails among the mass victims of lawful plunder when they, in turn, seize the power to make laws! Until that happens, the few practice lawful plunder upon the many, a common practice where the right to participate in the making of law is limited to a few persons. But then, participation in the making of law becomes universal. And then, men seek to balance their conflicting interests by universal plunder. Instead of rooting out the injustices found in society, they make these injustices general. As soon as the plundered classes gain political power, they establish a system of reprisals against other classes. They do not abolish legal plunder. (This objective would demand more enlightenment than they possess.) Instead, they emulate their evil predecessors by participating in this legal plunder, even though it is against their own interests.
It is as if it were necessary, before a reign of justice appears, for everyone to suffer a cruel retribution some for their evilness, and some for their lack of understanding.
The Results of Legal Plunder
It is impossible to introduce into society a greater change and a greater evil than this: the conversion of the law into an instrument of plunder.
The Law Defends Plunder
But it does not always do this. Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates in it. Thus the beneficiaries are spared the shame, danger, and scruple which their acts would otherwise involve. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus of judges, police, prisons, and gendarmes at the service of the plunderers, and treats the victim when he defends himself as a criminal.
The Law - Frederic Bastiat
I’ll lean with blaming those that commit the crime(s), and that could be more than I can count in government.
Ha! Like Mike from “Breaking Bad” saving his dough for his grand-daughter.
given his plea to stop, i say he and his benbeficiaries should be pressed ten times harder.
Ms. Reid’s work has been funded by (among others) the Clinton Global Initiative. uh huh
Yeah. Meanwhile, Reid instigates his violent supporters to pester the (private citizen) Koch brothers from the floor of the senate.
He spent 17K of campaign funds at her Etsy shop gifts for his staff and others so he says. I wish he would buy something from my Etsy shop.
I thought she made jewelry.
Go for the throat. Reid is a dried up old man who needs to go back to his home in the desert. (Under a sage brush would be nice).
How do we know Reid wasn’t laundering that money or providing kickbacks to his “supporters” thru his granddaughters company?
Speaking of the Koch brothers, I got this from “ofa” last night stating that the Koch brothers are apparently funding “Animal House” type booze fest at colleges all around the country to counter fauxbama care.:
Organizing for Action
This should humiliate anyone who’s ever been associated with the Koch brothers.
One of their anti-Obamacare groups is going to college campuses, giving away free booze to try to bribe young folks out of getting health insurance.
Let them spend their millions on sick crap like that. Whether they like it or not, they’re losing this debate, all because of the work you’re doing. We’re the group that’s capable of putting these groups in their place.
Here’s why I’m writing — we’re facing a huge fundraising deadline on Monday, and I need to know if you’ll chip in to help.
According to our records associated with this exact email address, you haven’t chipped in yet this year:
— Supporter Status: Active
— 2014 Membership: Pending
— Suggested action: Donate $5 or more today.
If I had one thing to say to the Koch brothers, it’d be: “SCOREBOARD!”
Despite the millions of dollars they’ve spent, more than 5 million Americans have already signed up for private plans through the health insurance marketplace.
We’re beating them through one-on-one conversations, helping people get the facts about getting covered, and dismantling the lies these groups are spreading about health care reform.
No matter what change we’re fighting for, it seems like the Koch brothers have always been on the other side.
Our track record is pretty damn good. We’ve shown we can beat them, because we’re building something bigger, stronger, and smarter than just a pile of money.
We’ll never be able to go toe-to-toe with their checkbook — and we don’t need to, because we have a much more powerful tool in the hundreds of thousands of Americans standing up to make their voices heard.
That’s what makes us different, and it’s what makes these fundraising deadlines so important.
