Mickey the Pit Bull Won’t Be Killed After Mauling 4-year-old

PHOENIX—A Phoenix judge on Tuesday spared the life of a pit bull that mauled a 4-year-old boy last month and touched off a polarizing Internet debate on mercy, blame and animal violence.

Municipal Court Judge Deborah Griffin ruled that the dog named Mickey must be neutered, defanged and microchipped. She declared the dog vicious earlier in the day and could have ordered euthanasia.

“There would be absolutely no possibility of the animal ever doing this to someone again,” Griffin said, saying the dog must remain in a facility for the rest of its life and can’t be adopted.

The Lexus Project, a New York-based animal rights group and the dog’s trustee, has 30 days to find a rehabilitation center or shelter to take Mickey. An animal advocate in court started to cry when hearing the dog would live.

The Feb. 20 attack left Kevin Vicente with a broken eye socket and jaw, and the boy has months, if not years, of reconstructive surgery ahead of him.

If it was my child, the Judge could expect the same.

So if a dog mangles a child, the court saves its life, but if it barks at a cop inside its own house, it gets shot to death in front of children.

My dad always said... just one time. and he meant it. He killed one of my dogs and also one of grandpa's dogs for biting someone... and I don't mean there was a debate about it either, neither dog lived any longer than it took him to get a rifle out and do the job. It wouldn't have mattered if it were the Governors dog, it was dead.

I'm the same way, try to teach my boys not to train the dog to play too aggressive and to watch out for the signs. They know what happens if the dog ever bites anyone. It's not a lack of compassion, it's good common sense in my book.

This story right here is just ridiculous. I mean, I love my dog and all, but it's an animal. These jokers just sentenced the dog to a torturous existence. Pull all it's teeth and keep it locked away for the rest of it's years? Just put the damn thing down and save everyone the trouble and risk. It's the only humane way to deal with the situation.

What I do know is that a dog that has attacked a child and done this sort of damage is vicious, and needs to be put down

Everyone always assumes that dog attacks are unprovoked.
