WASHINGTON — The Food and Drug Administration says 25 pharmaceutical companies are voluntarily phasing out the use of antibiotics for growth promotion in animals processed for meat.

Citing a potential threat to public health, the agency in December asked 26 companies to voluntarily stop labeling drugs important for treating human infection as acceptable for use in animal production. The FDA did not name the one company that has not agreed to withdraw or revise its drugs...

I haven’t checked it out yet, but I would think it is a phase out of “on-label” use of antibiotics in animal feed only. Injectables not affected? Ranchers would still have a supply of injectables?

Some info. I haven’t read all of yet: http://www.cattlenetwork.com/cattle-news/Antibiotic-resistance-Should-I-be-concerned-248385891.html

And not sure how today’s news would affect the info. in that article.

It did not specify feed or injectable.

Tonight I had some sheep with fly blow. I was able to clean them and inject some LA 500 and some wormer. Soon this will be a thing of the past. Given the cost of a vet call and the replacement cost of ewes, all sick ewes will be dead ewes. That is what the do gooders create.

And with tuna flavor for the cats, and beef for the dogs, who could lose?

A little late but better late than never. If I understand this issue correctly, the use of antibiotics in animals we eat is causing those antibiotics to become ineffective for humans. Do I have that correct?

On one hand drug resistant “super-bacteria” are becoming a big problem, on the other hand even higher prices for beef, chicken & pork.

Let me see, which do I chose? Do I want (a) super-bacteria or (b) higher prices for beef, chicken and pork?

I suspect one of the main reasons for this is that sales may have dropped off precipitously anyway. It’s insane to be using antibiotics this way anyway. Almost as insane as burning corn for fuel.

Yep. We STILL can’t get .22s at our Farm & Fleet. Ever. Once in a great while they have the .22 longs.

the agency in December asked 26 companies to voluntarily stop

Asked? What's the option if you say "no"?
