He was one of my heroes, too.
His son is a well know lawyer in Virginia Beach:

When I was a kid living in Subic Bay back in 1969-71, we had these POW bracelets that corroded and turned green on our wrists, and one of the bracts I had was for either Stockdale or Denton, can’t remember which now.
Denton always reminded me of my dad, for some reason.
I lived at the Naval Communication Station in Cheltenham, MD about a mile from Andrews AFB in 1973 when the POWs came home. I wanted badly to go over and see them when they flew in, but we weren’t allowed to and had to watch it on television.
Denton was quite a man, as was Stockdale. They are probably hanging out up there together now.
