Walmart Store Closures in China Disrupt Workers' Lives and Livelihoods
AFL-CIO ^ | 3/28/2014 | Cathy Feingold

Workers at Walmart stores in Changde, Hunan Province and Maanshan, Anhui Province in China are protesting Walmart’s plans to close the stores.

According to the Financial Times (behind a paywall), Walmart is in the process of closing 20 stores in China.  Store closures present workers globally with loss of income, disrupting family life, jeopardizing housing and the educational opportunities of children.  Abrupt closures leave workers with little time to plan transitions, and are often an occasion for avoiding payments due workers when they are laid off. Media and labor activists in China report that Walmart has not consulted with the local union in Changde on its closure plans. Workers are demanding that the company comply with Chinese labor laws in full, rescind dismissals of its workers and negotiate in good faith with the local trade union. The AFL-CIO supports the demands of Chinese workers.

Miss Nancy says losing your job gives you more time to spend with your family. So, have fun, unemployed Chinese used-to-workers.

Does the AFL-CIO know what would happen if they tried to organize anything (via their own union thugs instead of loyal Party reps) in Red China?

The AFL-CIO’s only purpose is to enrich the leadership of the AFL-CIO. Once you understand this everything they do makes perfect sense.

While you and many others have been sleeping and preoccupied...

The ugly truth is, in America, there are now more unionized government employees than in private sector America.

And all of us are not only paying their wages, but their union dues, and their gold plated retirement pensions.

Might be why the Union isn’t screaming about about jobs loss to off-shoring. Sounds like the AFL-CIO offshored too.

Walmart Store Closures in China Disrupt Workers' Lives and Livelihoods

Someone just won the "No Shit Sherlock" award. Yeah I found being laid off and unemployed to be extremely disruptive to my life and livelihood too! Only overpaid liberal hacks think that it's a plus.

Walmart has stores in China? Where do they get all their junk products from?

Walmart purchasing agents are among the best in the business. They purchase products their customers require from numerous global sources.

To classify Chinese products as junk is to not have a proper understanding of what is being sold. Buying Chinese junk is a purchasing error. Walmart has specifications that exclude junk. They have higher quality standards than you apparently recognize.
