“Looks like about a 3.7”

That low?! It sure felt stronger in the Santa Ana Canyon. At least it was short.

It could be the Whittier Fault.

I still remember Northridge in 94 - the ground was shaking so hard I feared everything would come crashing down. It could be felt a good hour away from the epicenter in Long Beach, California.

Twenty years later brings back memories.

“I still remember Northridge in 94 - the ground was shaking so hard I feared everything would come crashing down. “

There’s two earthquakes that I’ll admit scared me, and Northridge at 6.7 was one of them. The other was Sylmar, 6.6.

“Felt nothing here in Stockton. Missouri.....”

You don’t now, wiseguy. But the next time the New Madrid fault slips you’ll be singing a different tune...

The Richter estimates for the New Madrid quakes are 7 to 8. The Mississippi river changed course.

Go ahead and laugh. There are plenty of folks blaming so called increase sesmic activity on climate change.

Here they pump waste water into a geothermo power plants and people say that is increasing quake activity. Never mind we live near fault lines.

Too far away from the New Madrid to have any real effect over here in SW, MO. However, we do get flattened by tornadoes regularly. In fact the house that we live in was flattened 11 years ago.
I grew up in hurricane country. It’s always something.

“Too far away from the New Madrid to have any real effect over here in SW, MO.”

You won’t be too far if the New Madrid shakes another 8.0 quake.

According to wiki church bells rang in Boston. Sidewalks cracked in Washington. Intense shaking was felt in Pittsburgh and Norfolk.

Your rock in the midwest can hold more energy than the rock here in California. So we get quakes before the rock can save up as much energy. In contrast you will rarely get quakes, but when you do they will be huge.

3.6 isn’t worth mentioning.

It’s not worthwhile until it is over 7!
