In a little-noticed outcome of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, jails and prisons around the country are beginning to sign up inmates for health insurance under the law, taking advantage of the expansion of Medicaid that allows states to extend coverage to single and childless adults — a major part of the prison population.
State and counties are enrolling inmates for two main reasons. Although Medicaid does not cover standard health care for inmates, it can pay for their hospital stays beyond 24 hours — meaning states can transfer millions of dollars of obligations to the federal government.
But the most important benefit of the program, corrections officials say, is that inmates who are enrolled in Medicaid while in jail or prison can have coverage after they get out. People coming out of jail or prison have disproportionately high rates of chronic diseases, especially mental illness and addictive disorders. Few, however, have insurance, and many would qualify for Medicaid under the income test for the program — 138 percent of the poverty line — in the 25 states that have elected to expand their programs.

How utterly outrageous. Obama is not interested in the prison population rate on whether or not recidivism is reduced and certainly has no interest in saving money.
it is an absolutely cynical ploy to increase enrollment numbers in the Abominable Health Care Act, in being able to securing a regular, reliable source of enrollees that will certainly skew the numbers, but by how much is yet to be seen. Those incarcerated have no plan they would want to keep and don't have to be concerned about premiums because Obama has that taken care of by Medicaid. So, he's getting a free ride on the enrollment numbers.
I'm not sure on how to extrapolate what percentage of the entire prison population of 2.3 million prisoners will be eligible for ObamaDontCare. But according to the NAACP:Justice Fact Sheet,there are about one million black men incarcerated within the US prison system that certainly will provide a reliable source of enrollees that will help ameliorate the failure that the program is to some degree.

The Dems take care of their own rotten voting blocs. Veterans can’t get healthcare…as the VA has to hide the number who die waiting…but criminals will be served. No doubt, many of them are not even citizens of the US, but who wants to check all those identical Mexican names to sort them out? Certainly not Democrat bureaucrats.
I’m not saying they don’t need it, nor do I advocate them not being provided the medical care for whatever it is that ails them. Prisoners have customarily been made ineligible to programs and services available to the general law abiding public, such as the right to vote. Which by the way is gaining momentum in considering allowing prisoners to vote.

Maybe they figure that once they sign up and get BILLED for the Policy that THEY will be able to collect money to Pay for it as it is OUR fault they can’t pay the premiums because they are incapacitated er incarcerated ... But they are all innocent.
They figure the IRS did such a good job of paying for the phony tax filings that this will be a slam dunk.
Every time I read one of these Obamacrap stories I have a compulsive reflex reaction. I immediately grab for my hip pocket to make sure my wallet is still there.

I think Medicaid is free. They will pay no premiums.

You are right. I should have been clearer on that. The newly expanded coverage that allows Medicaid to cover ObamaCare is
the increase in cost I was making reference to.
I’m sure glad Gov Bryant didn’t expand Medicaid.
But is some states, the taxpayers get to pay for their lopadicktomy operations.
I wouldn’t doubt they are including voter registration forms along with the Obamacare mailings.
Does any one know the number of criminal sign ups? I am sure they are more than happy to add that number to the already inflated number of sign ups. There is no tactic that they won’t use, legal or illegal to get this thing to single payer.
In some cases it is an addadictome.

Top Income tax bracket went from 35% to 39.6%
Top Income payroll tax went from 37.4% to 52.2%
Capital Gains tax went from 15% to 28%
Dividends tax went from 15% to 39.6%
Estate tax went from 0% to 55%
Remember this fact: if you have money, the Democrats want it. These taxes were all passed only with Democrat votes, no Republicans voted for these taxes.
These taxes were all passed under the "Affordable Care Act", aka Obamacare.
