And the judge lets her off, after she claims she was too trusting of her campaign workers who worked so hard to get those fraudulent signatures on the ballot so she could run for election. But three of her campaign workers take the fall for her. They have been arrested.
Dem NYC councilwomans trusted campaign staff indicted on counts of fraud, forgery Some things never change, and corruption in the Big Apple appears to be one of them.Corruption like this is a sign that New York is well on its way to ending up like Detroit, or at the very least, some kind of third world, wasteland. It can happen. It does happen, and I predict, it will happen.
Three campaign workers for Democrat New York City Councilwoman Maria del Carmen Arroyo were arrested Tuesday and charged with falsifying business records, forgery and offering a false instrument for filing, the New York Daily News reported.
The three workers were paid a dollar for each signature they collected last summer on Arroyos re-election petitions. When staffers for Arroyos opponent, Julio Pabon, noticed signatures from celebrities like Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter and model Kate Moss, authorities launched an investigation
Insisting that she and her mother, New York City Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo, were the first to spot the forgeries, Arroyo told Board of Elections officials at a July hearing that she felt all she could be guilty of was trusting people too much, the Daily News reported.
Even though an investigation found a whopping 81 percent of the signatures were invalid, New York Supreme Court Justice John Carter ruled that Arroyos name could remain on the ballot, despite what the judge called her wholesale failure to supervise the petition-gathering process, according to the Daily News.
Arroyo went on to win the primary and general elections.
Now we know why Democrats win.
Judge John Carter, partner in crime.
She looks like a destructive thug.
Oh hi NSA.
no standards. standards might upset the apple cart.
Detroit on the other hand had the most honest mayoral election they’ve had in decades because the Michigan secretary of state what standing on their necks through the whole process.
I assume she gets to keep her council seat.
That is one rough looking, uh, whatever the heck that is.
I wonder what is wrong with the New York Republicans? Elections fraud is out there with flashing lights. Instead, the Republicans roll over and let the machine roll over them.
What is not said is the number of signatures from the honest signature gatherers, and whether that was still enough to get on the ballot.
Don’t these signature sheets get certified by city clerks? I’d think they have to validate each and every sig.
Somebody better tell Thad McCotter he can have his seat back, no prob.
81 percent fraudulent voters? Incredible.

The argument could be made she can’t be trusted to manage her own affairs. She looks like a bull dyke hence the reaon she was probably hired in the first place.
This is what the Democrat party is.
Let us be forgiving and generous and say 40.5%.
She looks like Yasser Arafat
Sorry, Dr Franklin, we couldn’t keep the Republic.
She looks like a dyke.
This is a Democrat stronghold.
The City Clerk has heard of Mickey Mouse. CERTIFIED.
The City Clerk saw Arnold Schwartzenegger in a movie. CERTIFIED.
The City Clerk read the Bible and recalls the name Pontius Pilate. CERTIFIED.
Well, we managed until the mid 1800’s. Pretty good, if you ask me.
she ought to be ashamed for not breaking 90...
No one verifies. There is only a problem if someone challenges. Anyone can challenge, but it’s usually done only in vicious rivalries.
She is, she is. She mentioned in her acceptance speech that "Though we worked hard this primary season, we will work much harder next one!"
Judge john carter treasonist!
I’m Shocked I tell you Shocked. (not)
Thanks for the correction, but can that mistake of her getting on the ballot be corrected?
Dang. Hard to blame this on RACISM.
In Michigan they do verify the signatures. They did when I lived there back in the ‘80’s and apparently they still do. In 2012 a GOP candidate was kicked off the ballot for invalid signatures.
I don’t know what it is with New York....maybe you’re telling me.
Or the party has big plans for you. BO won his first election by getting his opponents knocked off the ballot for bogus registrations. Then he won his Senate seat by getting a crony judge to release the sealed divorce records of Jack Ryan
True, true... but we still can use WAR ON WOMEN as the reason.
The three workers were paid a dollar for each signature they collected last summer
That should be 3 inch headlines in any real newspaper
Maybe she is a descendant of Boss Tweed.
Between 8 million and 9 million people, could be part of it. The elections are enough of a burden for the Board of Elections, with everyone obliged to work overtime. If they had to verify the signatures, we’d never get around to the actual vote.
The system actually works pretty well. There are piles and piles of designating petitions available for anyone to look at. Nobody makes a fuss unless there is a reason. Of course there are people who take the extra trouble and expense to knock everyone off the ballot except themselves, both members of their own party and members of the other party. Ssshh. I’m not mentioning anyone.
Yes, Obama did that. We have one or two who do that here, so it’s not a perfect system by any means.
It’s especially hard for the Republicans because they are outnumbered so greatly and they can’t just stand on the street and collect signatures but must call people on the phone and make appointments, gather the signatures at club meetings and other Republican events, or get someone to let them into a building, where they can go around and ring doorbells of Republicans.
I believe someone told me one time that there are only about ten states that require these petitions. I don’t know what makes them necessary—maybe the size and wealth of the population? If we had a fee for people to get on the ballot, we would have about 10,000 candidates.
Remember this is the city of Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall
