Vladimir Putin 'Wants to Regain Finland' Says Close Adviser
The International Business Times ^ | March 29, 2014 | Jack Moore

Posted on 03/30/2014 5:56:30 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

One of Russian President Vladimir Putin's closest ex-advisers has claimed that the ex-KGB agent ultimately wants to reclaim Finland for Russia.

Andrej Illiaronov, Putin's economic adviser between 2000 and 2005 and now senior member of the Cato Institute think tank, said that "parts of Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic States and Finland are states where Putin claims to have ownership."

"Putin's view is that he protects what belongs to him and his predecessors," he said.

When asked if Putin wishes to return to the Russia of the last tsar, Nicholas II, Illiaronov said: "Yes, if it becomes possible."

Illiaronov admits that Finland is not Putin's primary concern at present but, if not stopped in other areas of Eastern Europe, the issue will one day arise. Russian troops are currently massing on the eastern border of Ukraine, following Russia's recent annexation of Crimea.

"Putin said several times that the Bolsheviks and Communists made big mistakes. He could well say that the Bolsheviks in 1917 committed treason against Russian national interests by providing Finland's independence," Illiaronov told a Swedish news website....

He could well say that the Bolsheviks in 1917 committed treason against Russian national interests by providing Finland's independence,

Not to mention making peace with Germany.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
It’s the country for me.

You’re so near to Russia,
So far from Japan,
Quite a long way from Cairo,
Lots of miles from Vietnam.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
Eating breakfast or dinner,
Or snack lunch in the hall.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

You’re so sadly neglected
And often ignored,
A poor second to Belgium,
When going abroad.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I quite want to be,
Your mountains so lofty,
Your treetops so tall.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I quite want to be,
Your mountains so lofty,
Your treetops so tall.
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Finland has it all.

Putin is pushing the edge of the envelope.

If Obama weren't such a pussy, he would not have tried.

All this said, Putin would look soft if, given the weakness of Obama, he didn't at least try.

Putin would look impotent like Obama...and who could bear that. Not Putin...not me.

This is all Obama's fault.

His weakness dared Putin to kick sand in his face. Who can blame Putin for answering the call?

The Finns had every reason to side with the Germans. The Russians had just taken massive amounts of their land and killed 50,000 of their people. Nobody has ever knocked the Finns for fighting the Russians (on the side of the Germans) in WWII

There is nothing made up about it at all. Russia has always envied the warm water seaports of neighboring states, and Russian rulers have traditionally claimed Finland as a subject peopole and territory of Russia. Stalin tried and failed to recapture Finland, and Putin is enamored of Stalin to the extent Putin wants to succeed where Stalin failed.

So far I’ve read that Russia is not only going to invade all of the Ukraine, but the Baltic States, East Moldova, Poland, Alaska, and now All of Finland.

Yet none of these people saying this can even remotely contrive a story as to how all of this will magically happen.

Next week I fully expect the Russians to be marching into South Africa, because you know it CAN happen.

No, it’s not South Africa, yet, but it is Nicaragua. Putin’s Russian regime is negotiating with some of the Latin American nations for basing rights in Nicaragua and elsewhere in Latin America. Putin is working towards placing air and naval bases within close operating range of the Continental united States.

All of the places you mentioned, except Alaska, have actually been invaded and annexed by Russia and/or the Soviet Union in the last 75 years. Certain Bolshevists in the Soviet Union and Russia have made inflammatory claims to the territories of Alaska in the past twenty years. So, Putin’s ambitions to outperform Stalin’s conquests are no less unrealistic to Putin than the achievements of his predecessors.

Winston Churchill did. In 1941, Britain declared war on Finland, and the Anglo-Finnish war was one of the few that were fought between parliamentary democracies. But except for a few minor British air raids, little fighting between Britain and Finland occurred.

Yeah, that's the guy who came to mind. His count of 500 was official. Could have been half again that, and then there was the 250 that he got with a submachine gun. In 100 days. On his best day he got 25 Russians. Damn.

No, if I were Mr. Putin I would not be overly eager to encounter the Finnish people in the field. They enjoy it too much.

Interestingly enough, one of Putin's grandfathers was a chef for Stalin. From the Wikipedia entry for Putin:

"Putin's paternal grandfather, Spiridon Ivanovich Putin (1879–1965), was a chef who at one time or another cooked for Vladimir Lenin, Lenin's wife Nadezhda Krupskaya, and on several occasions for Joseph Stalin."

Excellent point. And one thing to look at is how well those countries treated their Jewish populations under German pressure. Finland, by and large, did the right thing.

They had no choice. The Soviets invaded them and then became our ally. The Finns didn’t have anyone to turn to.

They did their own fighting, though, and the Soviets paid a terrible price. But when the war was over they were treated as an enemy by the West.

My grandmother and grandfather came over in the early 1900's. My grandfather was in the Tsar's army. They came through Canada. My granddad took a boat and landed in the U.S. along with his oldest son. He then went back to Canada and brought my grandmother through Detroit.

The Canary Islands. They will march across the Atlantic Ocean into the Canary Islands. Because Putin, who now runs communist Russia, is *exactly* like Hitler, and Hitler had canaries so now Putin needs them. You heard it here first. The Soviet Russia, led by a Nazi, will move on the Canary Islands.
