Absolutely.

This is how it sounded to me: "If that's the best the Republicans have to offer, to Hell with it. I will vote for the Democrats. At least they'll give us stuff." Average American voters crave strong conservative leadership. In the absence of that they'll take the 'free' stuff liberals every time.
