U.S. could free Israeli spy in deal to save peace talks: source close to talks Photo 12:49pm EDT

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - An Israeli spy serving a life sentence in the United States and groups of Palestinian prisoners could be freed under an emerging deal to salvage Middle East peace talks, sources close to the negotiations said on Monday.

The sources, who spoke as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry prepared to meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders, said under the proposed arrangement that Jonathan Pollard, a former U.S. Navy analyst caught spying for Israel in the 1980s, could be released by mid-April.

Hopefully, he’ll keel over and die just as they open his cell door.

What the hell, may as well just capitulate on everything.

What an embarrassment this man is.

Usually it is the Israeli and Jewish sites publishing this proposal, but if Al Reuters is putting this out in the ether, than the Obamatrons are actually considering it.

Kerry, the problem is not how long Pollard serves time.
The problem is you and your boss shilling for the IslamoNazi effort to destroy Israel (and America, reference: Iran’s nukes your boss has been protecting and, more recently, funding...)

What an embarrassment this man is.

Please specify - are you referring to Pollard, Jean Francois Querrie, or the Grand Kenyan his own bad self?

While Isreal has an interest in Pollard, it seems stupid to hinge anything on his release...since the real issue isn’t between us and Isreal.

This stinks to high heaven. The whole White Hut is racist and anti-semetic. The first thing they want for Israel is it's obliteration.

It looks to me like Obama and crew may place more value on what they are getting than the Israelis do. Neville Kerry isn’t exactly the best and most rational negotiator there ever was. Buffoons all of them (in the administration).

Sounds like one of those multi-team NBA trades whereby at least 1 of those teams is trying to unload what is essentially untrade-able player.

Pollard should rot for what he did. ASW warfare is very highly technical and Pollard gave away the keys to the kingdom. Every submariner sales at greater risk for what he did.

I oppose anything involving the release of “groups of Palestinian prisoners”. And the fact that they regularly release a bunch of so-called Palistinians in exchange for one or two Israelis is ridiculous.

In regards to Pollard, since he gave the info to an ally, why is it such a huge deal? It’s not like he sold technology to the Chinese in exchange for campaign contributions like Clinton did.

I hope that Israel is not stupid enough to trade away ANYTHING for this guy.

I am Jewish, but I have no sympathy for someone who would spy on his own country, particularly after having sworn an oath. I have read reports which said that while he provided info to the Mossad (one could PERHAPS understand that), the Mossad asked for all kinds of things BESIDES information on Arab nations that were/are enemies of Israel. More to the point, he provided Mossad with info on our plans to attack the USSR, and the Mossad passed this along to the Soviets in return for the release of many Jews that were essentially held hostage by the Soviets. Pollard HAD to know that there was a possibility of this being: a) a false flag operation; or b) that the Mossad would (as it did) use the info for its own nation’s purposes.

I used to think that Pollard was being given a raw deal, that his punishment was disproportionate because he spied for an ally...but the reality is that he indirectl spied for an enemy and had pretty good reason to know that a lot of the material he stole couldn’t be used by Israel for anything having to do with its own security. Thus, I’ve changed my mind - let the SOB that placed millions of Americans at risk rot in jail for the rest of his life.

For anyone else Jewish out there who sypathizes with Pollard, understand that this isn’t a Jewish issue, and it isn’t even a “equal justice under law” issue - Pollard is simply another guy who placed his own self-interest above all of ours, and his own judgment above that of others who damned well knew a lot better than he did.

Pollard is scheduled for release next year. I can’t imagine Netanyahu would sell his country out to spare Pollard a few more months at the federal country club.
