“Obama has no Russia Policy”

Well, guess he’d better damn well develop one in a hurry.

Moscow appears to have seized another opportunity to flex its muscles

There's something to be said for strength: it gets people to notice and respect you.

The last time Russia went into Finland, the Finns gave them a very rough time. I’m hoping this is just another Putin gesture, meant to encourage the EU to come to a reasonable settlement with him over Crimea.

I’m hoping he’s not dumb enough to actually move on Finland.

Finland was part of the Russian empire for 108 years, from 1809 until Russia’s withdrawal from World War I in 1917.

The Fins, like the Poles, won their freedom from Russia by defeating Bolshevik armies in the field.

Russians might not want to screw around with the Finns. It didn’t work out so well for them last time.

Finland should just beam some of those Cancer-causing mobile phone EM waves in the general direction of Russia.

“The Russian defense ministry said in a statement that the exercises were pre-planned and that more than 50 fighter pilots took part.”

Murphy’s Law (proposed): Military drills are always “pre-planned” — especially when a surprise attack is contemplated.

After WWII the Soviets simply took a huge provence of Finland, ten percent of their land, declared it part of Russia and repopulated it with Russians.

The Finnish remember this and will not go easy into the Russian night.

Lots of history there. Greater Finland used to stretch almost to St Petersburg.

The Fins also beat the early Soviet army, and fought the late WWII one to a standstill (they didn't want to advance to far, and Stalin didn't want to press the issue anymore).

Today, I don't know. Russia is huge trade partner with the Finns, but they do see Finland as part of the Third Rome (greater Russia).

FRee Republic Platoon of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade arriving shortly to tell us that: 1) The Finns are really a bunch of Nazis and 2) Finland has always been part of Russia.

What’s the gun control status of Finland? Have they disarmed their people? If not, I wouldn’t fret, if so...

My uncle was in Helsinki a few years back with his two sons. They are hanging around a fountain and got to talking with a local about WW2, my uncle is a Korea Veteran and history buff. The local pointed at the base of the fountain to what bullet marks, they had fought the Germans where they were standing.
